  • Fender Style Replacement Bodies and Neck on Gumtree

Hi guys im exploring ways to replace the neck and body of my squire strat since Im happy with the quality of all the other parts I have put on it. I see on gumtree there is a guy selling strat replacement bodies and necks (http://johannesburg.gumtree.co.za/c-Stuff-for-Sale-musical-instruments-Fender-style-replacement-necks-and-bodies-W0QQAdIdZ357120991)

Does anyone have any experience with these and can vouch for their quality? Or is there another alternative? Im not looking at spending much over R1000 but I don't mind paying extra if I know that Im going to get very good quality. I have a MIM strat that I am very happy with and so I would essentially like to end up with a body and neck of at least the same quality if not better in which case I would be willing to spend more around the R2000 and a bit mark...Also when it comes to bodies, would the thickness make much of a difference? Cause with the Affinity Squire the body is thinner than a regular strat...I'm sure I've read that the affinities are made of alder though I can't be sure but if it is then maybe I should just get a neck in which case I could spend more on getting a better neck rather than trying to source a neck and body...

Thanks in advance for any replies ?

From the pics the parts seem to be from Dr. Parts which is basically the same as SX parts as far as I know. It's cool that the bodies are made from Alder... If you have 21/22 frets at the moment just remember to get the same amount of frets to keep the same scale length on your instrument. You'd have to compare the actual parts with what you have to decide if its really an upgrade or not.

    All of the best!
If you have a strat you're happy with, why not sell the Squier and put the bucks to other gear?

Others might (and surely will) disagree, but I reckon the only upgrades worth it on a guitar are basic hardware like nuts, tuners, saddle and pups. Anything more and you may as well build/get another guitar.
Is it the same as the Dr Parts stuff?

Last time I checked, Dr Parts stuff is the same as SX and pretty good woods, but I dunno if you're taking a step forward for that type of coin.
Thanks for the advice guys, I actually went with an old ibanez roadstar 2 with ash body and 1 piece maple neck which plays like a DREAM! The only issue I have with it is the pickups are humbuckers (super 70s...) but what i wanted was a p90 (humbucker sized) and a humbucker with split coil so it worked out perfectly. The roadstars were MIJ in the 1980s (mine is an 83 RS125) and are known to be great players and at a great price! So yeah, I'll be selling the squier...thinking of getting some cheap pickups and selling it as a squier and selling the super 70s separately, unless someone wants a super 70s neck and bridge with a tonerider city limits bridge pickup in the middle HSH guitar?

Well done. You've acquired an excellent instrument and really upgraded from the Squire. Fit P90's if you wish but keep those super 70's if you can...
