Gurus! Your assistance is requested...
I've got my Peavey VK112 combo (single 12" 16 Ohm speaker) that I'm getting a cab for. In fact, it's a vintage Elk cab with 2x12" long-throw speakers in it. Now, my amp needs an impedance of a minimum of 16 Ohms from the cab in order to work. Due to the Elk having 2x8Ohm speakers, they'll have to be wired in series to give me the required impedance. But that's really just background...
The thing is, the Peavey 112, when running into an external cab, cuts the built-in speaker and plays solely through the cab. Is there any way that I can get the amp to play through all 3 speakers? I'd like to have the combo speaker as a monitor if possible...

I'll be watching this one for any replies as well, I've wanted to get a 2x12 extension cab for my 212 for a while as well (effectively turing it into a 4x12)

Clint, AFAIK it only disconnects the onboard speaker in the 112. Your 212 should run the built-in speakers as well as the external cab. I also think yours has an impedance selector, correct? Opens up your options...

The 212 has a selector. Unfortunately, if the 112 disconnects the internal speaker, it means it can only run at 16 Ohms. Bypassing that and paralleling the built in speaker with a cab would drop the impedance lower than rated. AFAIK, the only way around this would be to have a custom transformer wound with different impedance taps and fit with a switch.

Correct, the 212 has a switch offering 4, 8 and 16 ohm impedance. Pity about the 112, that sounds like a bit of a pricey mod ☹

Thanks Alan, yeah I figured as much. Pity though, a long-throw cab and medium-field monitor may have been interesting. Ah well, if I mic it up on stage, I'll just take the cab along for aesthetics ?
Yeah Clint, and I does not have the money for such a mod. No biggy though, 'n boer maak 'n plan ?
