The all new, "I'm dealing with stupid people on Gumtree" thread

flatfourfan · 2012-03-06T10:08:23+00:00

So this can pretty much carry on from the old thread. http://www.guitarforum.co.za/general-music/when-does-lowballing-become-insulting/ And the original thread where I was offered someones sister. http://www.guitarforum.co.za/general-discussion/having-a-fun-time-on-gumtree-selling-a-guitar/msg105460/#msg105460 I've put up my ARX for sale and decided, she's going this week. So I slapped on a super low price and waited. Here's the thread on here if anyone is interested, http://www.guitarforum.co.za/index.php?action=classifieds;sa=view;id=569. lol@punt. It started last night when it went live on Junkmail. 1. (email): I am interested in the item, how much are you asking for the item and will you take R150 less for the item..........lmao @ scammer, I didn't even reply. 2. (sms): do you still have the guitar, if so consider it sold, if it's straight, I'll take it for the asking price. I can collect in the morning. - (this was the same guy who asked me to remove it from where I have it listed because he was coming through from Centurion (uhuh, 15 minutes away) and didn't want to pitch up for nothing, he played it this morning and then prompty asked for the case that it was in as well as my EVH leather strap that was on it, I said nope, as advertised, it's just the guitar, he said it wasn't worth it, so I sent him packing). 3. (call) ....wow, do people still make actual contact?........this is a first.....This one called about an hour ago as the ad went live on gumtree: I'm phoning about the guitar, do you still have it? What is the cheapest that you will go on the guitar? I was polite with him, but said, price is non-neg and I'm really in no rush to sell and can wait for my asking price. Funny thing is I put up an ad for a guitar case that I got with my AR, that isn't really a great fit, so I've put it up for sale and the damn phone is ringing off the hook for it. Stay tuned for more madness (hopefully).

giggsy

I'm rooting for Ken on this one

karoo wrote I must say, that ibanez does look good quality for that price.

It's a really awesome guit and will hold it's own against anything that's double the price. Even the pups are great quality, I'm surprised that I still have it.

Now that the case has gone, I have this sight looking at me from behind my desk.

Before........

After..........

VellaJ

Now I can understand a bit of haggling, but R1,500 for that? It's the bargain of the year ??? (IMHO :-[ ). If I was in the market that axe would be gone...

flatfourfan

#7 (yup we have a new one).

SMS.......yup it's pretty obvious people try to get as much said without saying that much.(sounds like the name to a song) hang on it is, you say it best when you say nothing at all.........or summit like that.

my reply

A totally awesome deal

his reply

so what's the deal?

my reply

this deal is so awesome I cannot discuss it over unsecure comms. We shall refer to it as the awesome deal of which we shalt not speak....ith.

He's yet to reply............I don't think that he will though.

I understand your animosity towards this knob but I'd have to say that you're sounding like a scammer of note now. ?

lol...........I hear you, but whatever happened to, hi there, can I come and see the guitar?, he comes to see the guitar, shreds or plucks or ooh and aah and then tries to haggle a bit and then hands over the greenbacks, or orange backs or silverbacks and we both leave smiling. Why do people have to make selling something so bloody difficult???

No, you're right, it's ridiculous.

flatfourfan

# 6 (part urm, THREE), look who's back........

my reply

(go have a look at my second thread posted on page 1, no more dodgy people that I don't know at my house thank you).

Sorry, the guitar is currently at my work and can be viewed here during office hours, but you're more than welcome to have a look tomorrow.

His reply

brain-wave/fart dunno :sorry:
@FFF
Would you consider being the GFSA gumtree liason on a semi informal basis?
You could charge a small handling/admin fee and in return you could keep on selling kit to crazies.
They seem to crawl out of the woodwork everytime you try and flog something.
And we all enjoy reading about it.
I'm sure we could secure you some danger pay aswell, might even get more R300.

NorioDS

Loving this thread - hugely entertaining ?

Please keep it updated with all future funnies from your sale attempts!

Jack-Flash-Jr

Right now someone is posting on the Gumtree Foragers SA forum about the wise ass trying to sell an ARX ?

LMAO........the funny thing is, I cannot for one second believe that there are this many loonies on GUMTREE, the Nigerians I can handle, as well as the Salami pirates from north africa, but I may be up the wrong tree here, but I SWEAR that a lot of these replies are forumnites.......lol.

I did just get a really irrate guy call me about the guitar case, he was travelling through Midrand and promptly proceeded to swear at me because I sold the case to speedy nick without calling him before he came over to get it. Damn tosser, I must of said 10 times, PLEASE, PLEASE call me before you come to make sure that I still have it.

If someone offers to sell you a R1million car at R1000, you will pass and think it is a scam or stolen.

So if you want a quick sale, are you supposed to advertise the guitar at a higher price and say very negotiable? Crazy stuff.

Another issue is that when selling items below R5000 you typically deal with people who are not very savvy with regards to wheeling and dealing or just business in general. (from my experiences)

yup, you're pretty much spot on with that.

So, we may have some movement on this guitar, the woman in the office opposite mine has been eyeing it all day and asked me to bring in my amp tomorrow so she can give it a whirl. She just wants to hear that all is kosher and she said that she'll take it........

Holy crap, so I have to lug my 100W HIWATT into work tomorrow........bugger that thing aint light.

so she is PENDING as of now.

karoo

take the 200W

flatfourfan

dude, you nuts?........even with the big wheels on it, it's still a total cow to move around.lol.

karoo

hehe, I have a guitar lesson today (first one in ages), and the guy doesn't have a spare amp, so I have to SHIP my gear to his house for one hour's lesson. Luckily it aint as big as ur baby

flatfourfan

and enter the palookah (#1) who was here this morning looking at it and who turned it down only to want it a few hours later and I told him to stop wasting my time.

gary, i've got some stuff to sort out at the square so i'll quickly come to your work to pay for the guitar, thanks.

I replied.

sorry bud, but she's on pending at the moment till tomorrow, if that buyer backs out then you're more than welcome to it, but as of now, you'll just have to wait and see.

he replied.

f**k you
