I have a Fender 2x12 and its a sweet little cab but the thing is it sucks for directional volume. I put my cab and head on a desk where we practice and it makes it a little better but I have to put my head in line with the cab to hear it really well.

My question is should I get a bigger cab? I am sadly never going to play stadiums so my thinking is a 4X12 is too big for my uses but then also if I did get a 4x12 would an angled cab be the answer I'm looking for? would it push that sweet noise right into my face hole?

I know about amp stands and I guess that is one way to go to angle the speaker up etc and I will probably start there.

Any advice is always appreciated, thank you.
Look into Beam Blockers and similar diffusing devices.
Have you tried putting the cabinet onto an amp stand?

These usually can be tilted back quite a lot.

+1 That will be the easiest option as I have no idea what beam blockers and similar diffusing items are ??? :-[
Beam blockers are a simple baffle that diffuse (scatters) the sound so you get a very wide sweet spot without the (sometimes painful) "beaming" right from the middle of the speaker. They are simple devices and easy to DIY.

Of course, the age old trick is to turn your cab around and bounce the sound off a nearby (usually back) wall. Try it... you'll love it. ?

            I just learned something new...

Guess which way my cab is going to be facing tonight. ? Actually, this sounds like an added advantage of a head/cab over a combo: I can still keep my controls facing me.
