So which is the best, Serial or Parallel Fx loop?

I have done some reading and from what I could make out, serial sends the feed from the preamp part of the amp to the Fx loop and a parallel loop sends a part to the Fx loop and the rest is fed straight to the power amp.
They both have their pros and cons, but generally a series effects loop is the best as all effects will work properly in a series loop. With a parallel loop, delays and reverbs get the small advantage of keeping the direct signal path relatively pure, but all effects that rely on 100% wet signal path (compression, drives, most modulation and pitch) don't work as they are intended.
