Back to the original post though: I looked at all the solderless patch kits recently, to see if anything could tempt me away from soldered patch cables. Result: I ended up buying another batch of Neutrik angled jacks - sure, they're big in comparison, but I know my cables aren't going to give me any problems ?). One thing that turned me off about all the solderless stuff is that each make relies on it's own cable - you can't mix and match or use any kind of cable.
Anyway - I spent a day looking at all the plugs and cables, scrutinising every bit of info I could get from the manufacturer, "how to" vids and third party reviews. I came away with the impression that the Bill Lawrence were probably the most reliable with the highest quality cable and best strain relief, but not angled jacks so not as compact as the George Ls. The George L's cable is also great and strain relief isn't bad. The Lava don't have any kind of strain relief at all, so I wouldn't want to trust them on a gigging board.
