Hi Guys
I have a friend who wants to learn to play.
He already has an entry level Strat that he bought a few years ago but did nothing with it.
I have restrung and tuned it for him.
Before he finds someone to teach him (I'm not qualified to attempt that) he would like to see if its something he will persevere with.
I can certainly teach him basic open chords and a few other things.
Question is what would you begin to teach someone starting from scratch...besides how to tune the guitar, hold a plectrum, guitar position etc.
I dont want to kick him off in the wrong direction.
I started learning the C Major 7th scale which made my fingers and ears clever and then went on to open chords. Is that the way to go?
TIA!!

I started out with the C Major Scale, open chords and then a simple song. In my case, Greensleeves. That was all given to me in the first lesson, but it wasn't an overwhelming amount. I had a couple of weeks to practice these, and slowly my tutor would give me more chords, then moving onto the Minor Pentatonic scales, and then the more advanced stuff...
Don't bog down completely in theory. Start with simple tunes from the off...
