Hi , i own a battery powered 40W AMP which has a single 5.5 or 6.5 inch speaker in it , if i change that speaker out for a 8 inch speaker , which i have . Will it have any detremental effect on the battery amp . Like using more power and limiting or reducing battery life . It works off a built in rechargable battery that lasts about 8 hours as is at moment before a charge. So is it safe just to swop speakers and of course i will check ohm ratings

In fact your mileage will depend on mainly the impedance of the speaker. Compare the rated impedance and you will have a good indication on whether you will see batteries go quicker or slower.
On the other hand, in general the efficiency of a bigger speaker will be higher, making you not turn up the volume setting as much for the same volume in the room.
