  • Killswitch location...

Good afternoon folks ?

My previous killswitch in my Strat failed (I suspect it got damaged in the theft), and since I got a nice shiny (not literally!) new black pickguard, I want to think a bit more about where to put the switch for maximum playability. It turns out I have access to a Dremel so routing is no longer a problem for me as it was before - I was forced to put the little button between the pickup switch and the volume knob, which was okay but not ideal as I had to move my hand a significant distance from the strings to jam on the little sucker.

I want to place the button in such a way that I can play it without moving my hand from the strings.

Currently, I'm thinking of placing the button right below the middle pickup, like so:

It seems like this would allow me to play the thing with minimal hand movement, and depending on the riff I could even pick and press the button at the same time.

The button I got is a nice Sanwa OBSF-24 arcade button, so it's quite large - diameter slightly bigger than that of the knobs - which makes for easy playing, I suspect.

So my question to you lot is: if you were to put a killswitch in your guitar, particularly if it's a Strat, where would you want it to sit so that you can play it as intuitively and efficiently as possible?

Ta ?

I don't have a strat anymore so no real experience with kill switch placement there, but under the middle pup sounds good if the cavity in the body allows it. Plus if it will work for you there then do it.
It seems a little far out if your palm is resting on the bridge? I mean, the strat volume knob is placed where it is to be accessible with minimal hand movement. And your proposed placement is a way off from there. My hunch would be that it needs to be a little closer to the bridge if possible.
Why a killswitch? You can kill the sound by turning the volume knob down. Why not install a blower switch instead. Maybe make it bypass the volume knob, so if you play something quiet with the volume low, and need lots of drive NOW, you press it and voila, the volume is on 10 and you have your drive. Killing the sound completely seems a waste of effort. Unless you had some effect in mind where killing the sound is needed.
Ewald, it's usually a momentary switch used for stutter effects.
Yeah, I get it now (well not really, but hey! its not my guitar ? )
I have tried most of these things out, that's the only way to figure out if you can make it work for you or not. A killswitch, is not one of the things that work for me ?
