This just in. SANRAL have modified the Ts & Cs. Anybody who signed up under the old Ts & Cs has the option of closing their account or accepting the new Ts & Cs. I've uploaded the document that explains WHAT was changed. You can get that at
https://www.box.com/s/f248fa2a64851e7dbc2a it's under 300kb.
There is, amongst other things, statements that nothing in the SANRAL Ts & Cs overrides the Consumer Protection Act, that any information gathering similarly falls in line with existing laws, that they will give fair notice and explicit notice of any changes to Ts & Cs and allow individual users to opt out if they don't like the new version.
Thanks for posting Bob, that is good news (sort of). It underscores exactly my point. This system is being forced through without due process and proper scrutiny. The T's & C's have been farcical so far (I'm not sure to what extent these changes solves the mess, will read through it in detail when I get the time). But until such time as this thing is done properly, I don't see myself registering.
I remember the first bunch of people who registered (several months ago), found that their accounts were charged with a monthly service fee even though the toll system was far from operational. Another outcry, another scramble for information from SANRAL, another deathly silence from SANRAL and another story that eventually got lost in the clutter of other news items. I don't even know what the eventual outcome of that was.
So it seems, everyone who has registered might end up having to register again or at least sign new T's & C's. And with the legal challenge that's still sub judice, there's no telling what might still happen. In the mean while SANRAL is trying to get as many people as possible to register with their radio ads and bully tactics. I don't know which universe SANRAL imagine us to be in but this is not how things work in a normal world.
Nope, I will only register once all of this junk has been sorted out.
