Hey guys

So I bought a 212 cab off one of the forum members a while back, had 2x Celestion G12S rolas in (magnet is between L and M, 75hz cone). I had been using this for my Tremolux for the past couple of weeks, not 100% happy. Today I swapped one of them for a 12F150 I have here at home. My word, what a difference. Turns out the Celestions have a crazy mid spike, and lacked detail in the high mids. The Weber just opened everything up. Has a bit less bass and the treble is still harsh, but I expect thiis to change soon (loading music onto my iPad to burn it in for the next day or two).

Who else has first hand experience changing speakers? What was it like for you? Better than changing pickups?
Take a look at the link I posted in a previous thread, "speaker comparison"
Yeah - IMO, speaker swaps can change the character of an amp more than different valves, caps, resistor comp or anything else.

I popped some Webers in my Twin (Blue Dog and Silver Bell, both 50W alnico). Was trying to keep the Twin's cleans but get some Vox chime with them. I'm very happy with the results - aside from getting some chime, it's a very balanced combo - lots of bass, but not overbearing, smoother, more natural drive and compression and it's a bit more pedal friendly. Sometimes I think maybe I should have gone all out for chime and fitted two Blue Dogs or two Celestion Golds, but I think that would have been a bit to over-the-top for some things I do.
Tx BT, I posted than video a year or so back, and another one comparing just Eminence speakers more recently. I was actually asking for first hand experiences besides my own.

Thanks Alan. I have heard many good things about the G10 actually, I'd love to have a 210 cab with one of those and a ceramic Fender voiced speaker. I imagine that would sound fantastic, as I absolutely loved the compression and shimmer from the Blue in my Vox.

The more time this speaker gets on it, the happier I get. I prefer the breakup it has, the mids seemed a bit congested before - and adding a midboost just sounded horrible.
Fortunately the Webers do break in quite quickly because their stock doping is relatively light. I broke mine in with a bass guitar and I could hear it change while I was playing, while the Celestion Blue in my AC15 took months. Those strident highs will soften and sweeten, the bass will get bigger and rounder, but the upper mid "clang" will remain (a good thing).
:-[My 2nd born had just started crawling and got hold of my greenback in a grill-less cab.
That really softened things up. The dust protector was even half pulled off! Haha
              ha ha good one Benj

After chatting to Joel aka Joe Moore, he commented that his Cube 30 was his go to amp, but would have like to have a 12" speaker instead of the standard 10"

Well Just today I fitted an external speaker jack to my Cube 30 - and connected to an external 112 cab loaded with an old "Specially produced for Steelphon", Red type M 320 38.C-FX made somewhere in the 60's, for Steelphon - Italian amp maker from what I can find on the web ....must say it sound pretty good.

I will drive them a bit harder in the next few days once I have finnished with some mods to my SE tube amp

              looks like these

Any one that can shed some light on who manufactured them, it would be greatly appreciated
