So I thought I would share this pa nightmare.
I played a gig on Saturday night at street cafe in Edenvale to quite a decent sized crowd, about 80 people.
We usually just mic up 2 guitar amps and the vocals and leave the drums and bass. To our dismay we rocked up to a PA that just didn't want to work.
Finally I got fed up and so just decided to run the vocals through the other guitarists 100 watt solid state amp.
Good thing I always bring my laney cub 10 as a spare so the second guitar went through that and I went through my Ibanez TSA.
It was a pretty garage band style setup and despite no one in the band being able to hear themselves or each other I actually got one or two complements on the sound.
Particularly the clarity of the vocals.
The cub surprisingly filled the whole room when put at the front of the stage and we play pretty loud blues and rock.
Turned out to be a fun show but I still went to order some wharfdale titan 15 active speakers so this doesn't happen again. ?

Ja that sucks. I remember rocking up at a theatre only to find no monitors or even a decent PA. It was a 6 channel desk.
We quickly made a plan to borrow some gear though but it's always good to check the venue before hand.

It happens. I've had mains go down and finished the gig with a pair of 100W monitors that had just the vocals going through them. Also got compliments on the sound... ?

Well done! It's important to be able to improvise in all situations. I have a Laney A-1 acoustic amp that has filled in for me as monitor, guitar amp and PA speaker on various occasions. It's the best money -'ve spent in a while, as it's also a killer acoustic and a fair bass amp when needed.

Yeah that cub can be plenty loud ? but yes as a gigging muso i always carry spares in car . Powered speakers are great back up's for almost any gig if disaster strikes and they compact enough to carry a 600 w pa in boot of a compact , so yeah even if pa is supplied play it safe
