I would advise (and I have by no-means any experience in building guitars, I only speak about what I was told by builders) If you can get away with just oiling it up (not if you're airbrushing) do so, if you're coating, I would use a matt finish. Resonance is better. Ernie Amos builds 'Selah guitars' (nobody's heard of them) he has a strat he made out of raw wood, didn't even oil it. Produced excellent sound though...Just my penny's worth

Oak isn't exactly a species that accepts oil finish... Undecided
but have found exactly the same sealer that Neon Gecko gave me in the beginning only in a mat finish with which I will finally seal and finish the Bird in off.
