Amp treasure hunting
Already got mine:

1963. Four years older than I am. Now sports new grill cloth, new knobs and a pair of Weber speakers (Blue Dog & Silver Bell).

This is how you often find them.....in dark dusty studio storerooms.....an abandoned '63 copper panel AC30....the holy grail of tone ?

I still roam the pawn shops with hope. Unfortunately google has made these events pretty rare.
A classic deluxe reverb for 500 bucks would make my life. ?

Found mine in a pawn shop, sold it in the USA.
1966 Vibrolux Reverb with GEC KT66 valves and original Jensen speakers.

Shoosus those KT66's are monsters in real life!
Next to KT120s they are not too big ?
Haha yes true :-[ But I mean for a plug and play comparison to 6L6's ???
The worst power to size ratio is the venerable 300B. Fantastic sound for hifi but 10W out of enormous bulbs does seem a bit of a waste. On the other hand, I never fully open up my 300B amp.
My dream find would also be the early Bassman head for R500 ?

and this is the cab of this AC30.....totally neglected. No grill cloth, or tolex (painted black!), no handles or vents (use to be copper)...but the electronics are just fine.Vic wrote:

One of these. I've also often wondered whether there are any old Vox AC10's lying around. ???

The AC10 is rare in SA and was produced in relatively small numbers. I have one and would love to know if there are other examples around . The AC15 is also rare here...have never even seen one locally.nicovlogg wrote: One of these. I've also often wondered whether there are any old Vox AC10's lying around. ???
Awesome, what does it sound like? ?Vic wrote: The AC10 is rare in SA and was produced in relatively small numbers. I have one and would love to know if there are other examples around . The AC15 is also rare here...have never even seen one locally.
Like an AC30, chimey, but understandably with less punch. These came with 2x10 Elac alnico speakers. The AC10 also has an EF86 in the preamp which gives nice tonal clarity. Quite loud as well.nicovlogg wrote:Awesome, what does it sound like? ?Vic wrote: The AC10 is rare in SA and was produced in relatively small numbers.
