The Challenge November 2011 - Time to Vote

Renesongs · 2011-12-01T14:07:50+00:00

This is the Last challenge of the year so voting will close on the 16 December 2011. Only three of the ten entries indicate what category they in so I will let you be the judge . Each member has three votes so if you honest you can decide on your favourite beginner, intermediate and advance or say too hell with it and vote for your favourite 3 entries regardless of category.
This one is called the theatre of horror. I was going through stuff when I wrote this. I really hope you guys like it. I know its really rough but thats what metal is all about :P http://www.box.net/s/7h0nrcn93uin0hthjdkq

Here's my entry, sending it a bit early because I'm off to Cape Town tomorrow! This piece was inspired by Threat Signal's new album (which is beyond amazing). For guitars I used the x50 amp with guitarhack impulses, TS-808 and EQ. Drums I used EZDrummer pop/rock kit but layered the kick and snare with Andy Sneap samples. Slot me in the intermediate category please. http://www.box.com/s/1t1tlq3fknub9erkp2zz Cheers, and good luck to everybody!

Right, went a little different on this one compared to my normal routine. What we have is ONE guitar and a drummer. Talk about band commitment, pffft... bassists and vocalists... pffft. Hope you enjoy it. http://www.box.com/s/z1ex7i4ign2tk3op5ede

Hey. Attached is my entry to the Challenge. Rather early than forget, I guess :) http://www.box.com/s/oy4m3r5f1n3sgsax9mgr My mic quality, combined with the fact that I'm actually no metalhead, made sure that this actually came out more like hard rock than metal... Oh well, if I get one vote that would be great for a first shot :)

Here is my entry for November. I am concerned some folks have very slow internet so I made two choices...... a 128kbps mp3 at about 2.1MB and a .Wav at roughly 34MB as I recall. Please decide which file will be best for the members as I do not know what sort of internet problems there are there. This is the MP3 http://soundcloud.com/highway-chile/machinegunistan-128-mp3 And the .Wav http://soundcloud.com/highway-chile/machinegunistan-wav Thanks.

"There once was this goat, who ran away from home, got adopted by a man they call the mountain king, he is pretty epic, he lives on a mountain, and likes reverb, this is rare recorded material of the goat shredding the guitar and his master ripping it out on the drums............the bassist remains a mystery" http://soundcloud.com/manfredmusic/manfred-klose-the-epic-goat its uploaded on soundcloud so you can listen to it on there, or click on the download button to download it. its very rough and a bit dodgy haha.......and i might have abused to compression a little bit......

Here's my entry for this month's challenge. What a ride! I don't know the first thing about metal and, considering the rigorous debate it always evokes, I wouldn't be surprised if some don't even consider this metal :) At any rate, it was fun to try to apply myself well outside of my comfort zone. I didn't have the tools to add vocals but I hope the unbridled anger and erruption of hate over the fact that my swimming pool is green and the ineptitude of my useless Kreepy Krauly is evident from the music :D http://www.box.com/s/jz2fa21lsfoadhx93ggc

So here is my entry, I'm normally entering category A so gooi it there. http://www.box.com/s/pvxoa7axj5sy6sqrqmu5 Not much of a mix but it is there.

Here is my entry. Taken from the bands new song. Simple. Me on guitars. Epi Goth explorer>Zoom 505II>Marshall JCM 900. I culled it from one of the new songs on our new album which we recorded last week. http://www.box.com/s/p7ratcokb2vojjyzzzy9

And here it is!! After you hear me count 1-2-3-4 prepare to have your face melted :D Dual guitar to make it sound heavy. And I recorded the guitar and vocals at the same time to same time which worked out well. The songs called "Molten Hate" http://www.box.com/s/khdfeyt6df9zidvseq87

http://www.box.com/s/d5kfgiya6glltvl8r2be Our band's name is "Heed The Word". This song's name is "First Light" since it's the first song to see the light of day outside my small home studio and our cars :) Although it's not a full "band" and we're just two guitarist, and we most unfortunately don't have a vocalist yet, we believe that there is enough attitude, character and melody in our material that it will definitely still make a person want to headbang and enjoy it just as much!

Ok, I went for an Old School metal track, I was trying to get an early 90's death metal kind of sound out of it, I also tried to do some rythym changes and break downs too. If anybody has any comments or pointers and tips, feel free to share :) It's 2 guitar tracks, 1 bass guitar track, 1 drum track and a Solo Track (5 in all) I'll stick my neck out and go intermediate this month. :o http://www.box.net/s/rys0o4nx2lcn8jj7xbxy
(old forum) Poll Results: Metal Daniel "Seventhson" Stuart: 5 doc-phil: 20 VellaJ: 4 Highway Chile: 8 Manfred Klose: 5 Dewald "deefstes" Swanepoel: 4 Donovan Banks: 6 Tamla Kahn 'Hammeron' McMahon: 10 stu: 7 b1scu1t: 29 evolucian: 11 G-Man: 3

Highway Chile wrote it smells like...........home!

Not my home... we have a 9 month old baby. Our home smells distinctly of baby poo.

Highway-Chile

Aah yes, baby turd. Nothing quite smells like it, and when they start on the solid food. ? ☹ .............. mama mia!! That first black one is usually interesting too.

Well congrats on the baby! That is so cool, I love babies and have had two. They are so awesome when they are just little wrigglers. I'd have another in my quest for a boy, but alas I am too old and the event would kill me. ? Once we got to consistently sleep through the night with our last daughter, I knew I could never do it again.

Donovan Banks wrote You're getting me confused with my old man and his brothers. They used to do stuff like that.
In fact, there's a story about my one uncle who collected a VW combi from okes in Cape Town, who paid him to drive it to Lesotho to pick up a load of weed.

He picked it up, cruised through to Pretria where he stayed for a few months, selling it and living it up.

Then he drove it back to Cape Town, gave the kombi back and said the cops caught him and he only got away now.
is he the oke that used to smoke a pipe in the lounge at the Harcourt Hotel, using the curtains for a sulfie?

What a memory , our family was rough and tough as well. My Dad used toi maintain the cable car at the Harcourt! I am in a 60's zone right now. Strange memories are flooding in Tom Jones - "What's new Pussycat" and another song "Oh sweetpea, come oin and dance with me..." Must have heard thes at the Harcourt hotel.

Okay excuse my ignorance but what's with 456?

I agree with you about the complaining. I have been wanting to say something but I keep "tearing up" my posts. ? I don't want to start up and I also don't want to appear bitter or anything because I am not doing well in this competition. Which is actually by design in a sense. There were complaints about me winning more than once. Usually this has the effect of making me pull out all the stops and taking no prisoners, but I was just like fukit! Kinda how you felt about not even wanting to listen to anything.

Squonk wrote I am in a 60's zone right now. Strange memories are flooding in Tom Jones - "What's new Pussycat"...........

You and me both brother! Somehow the 60's hit me hard recently, my youth etc. What is totally a trip is that I also got "What's New Pussycat" on my brain the other day and it's stuck in there. I got so frustrated that I looked to see if the movie was on Netflix and it was........ so I watched some of it. Peter Sellers and Peter 'O Toole.

We must be on the same wavelength right now.

Do you guys get NetFlix in SA?

Other than regular movies etc, there are some great guitar technique instructional DVD's available there. I got instructional DVD's of Joe Pass, Brent Mason, Pat Martino (Creative Force), Jimmy Bruno and a couple others. I have a bunch in my queue. I mostly use it for streaming movies though...there are a ton of cool films, lot's of different genres, foreign films, documentaries etc etc.

singemonkey

Dude. We are in bandwidth purgatory here.

It's a decision for most of us whether to stream a 360p Youtube vid if it's over 5 minutes. And if you do, you mostly have to hit pause and wait for it or it'll keep being interrupted. ☹

Norman86

Firefox and best video downloader ?

Highway-Chile

I keep forgetting about the internet speed woes in SA. That sucks.

I see that I'm tie for last place again ? Anyone have any pointers for me?

Thanks Norm, glad you liked my entry ?

If we added our votes together, we'd still be in last place ?

Then you have a bad case of "Tom Jones Syndrome"

"Is it common?" you ask

It's not unusual.... 8)
