Accoustic (or "grampas' guitars") is not exactly my thing either,
yes i tend to agree that sharing a common interest is important in a get together there was a guitar setup workshop by andy mc gibbon which "gearhead" if i remember had a hand in organising ..which specifically drew in peope interested in the tech side of guitar .........then .both "Bob" and i have hosted "acoustic " days and braai's ect at our respective homes ................and both were successful..but the rule for both (we had open mic performances and had a PA SET UP to allow people to play at both along with a social chat and braai and lots of beer ) ...but the rule...and i should add it greatly was influenced by noise issues and neighbours was thant we would plug in and play amplified but no electric guitars or overdrive pedals could be used on the day ) so it was aimed at a specific genre ,the acoustic fingerstyle, singer songwriter types and people with a common interest in acoustic guitars attended and both were well attended,,,,,,,,,,, SO the rules up front allowed people to know what would be happening at the event ..........since i'm sure most "rock/indie /metal players" do not want to discuss tone woods and compare bracing in different acoustics .............just as most "acoustic players" won't wanna turn the amps up loud enough to distort and be in the same room........ or discuss various overdive pedals
so yes i do suggest that a get together is a great idea but make it theme based .......... as music in genereal is way too diverse to expect everyone to find common ground with each other ... despite being on the same forum .......
and of course the age difference as much as we hope and pretend it does not make a difference really can be a telling factor unless there is a common interest shared by the people
so as BOB suggested.one person should plan it and set itup .............. and decide on what they want to do .......... and as at previous functions someone must take charge and set the rules and i'm sure it will work .
