Picked up a Fender Bassman Ten today (with help from a friend ? they're heavy...) at a good price. Missing a few control knobs but thats a minor issue ?
Sounds soooo good ? Super stoked! Stays very clean even when turned up fully on the channel volume with the master down just past halfway.
Question is it better for the tubes to have the channel volume all the way up and the master turned down or to have the master all the way up and the channel volume turned down? The sounds aren't terribly different, pretty much clean on both with just a tiiiiiiny hint of breakup. The breakup is more noticeable with both turned all the way up but thats too loud ?
The black control panel dates it to between 80-82 from what I see on the net...

Heres what you really wanted to see though ?:

and The Control Panel:

    I used to have a bassman 10 from 73

Witht htese amps you have to max the master to get that nice sound.... and then play with your normal volume.......

Yeh to get a good sound you need to have it loud... thats the amp you bought...... great amp
Nicely done Kalcium! That was Brent's one, right?

Old Fenders are the shizz ?

Yup thats the one ? Brent is a really chilled cool guy too ? ...Any idea what the deal is with the speaker cabinet part though? Looks like there were 2 bigger speakers at the top once upon a time...

But yoh I am stoked with the sound ? still gotta get my little laney fixed by the guy you recommended ?

What MIKA says is unfortunately all true. Max the master - it's just a tone sucker. Then give it as much volume as circumstances allow (The highest I've ever been able to run it at a gig was on 3 - except when something went wrong with it and I had to dime it).

They do have a gorgeous clean chime though. But one day, time and money permitting, I'll almost certainly get mine blackfaced.
I suggest you get glen to remove the master volume. He adores working on point to point amps, but I'm not sure whether this is point to point. He did some wonderful stuff to my bassman!
I think I'll take it in for a check up and ask what kind of suggestions he has at some stage in the future. Ask how much it'd cost to have it blackfaced ask what other suggestions he has etc...for now though Im quite happy as is ? My laney sounded good when it worked too and being a 15 watter i'll be able to max it out for home use, this thing has those wonderful cleans I was hoping to get from it though ?
