U can apply this to basically any setup....(EQ and chorus pedals)I always had a problem of getting a really heavy hi-gain tone, but with as little hi gain fizz as possible, that is nice and articulate, bass mid and treble balanced.
So what i came up with if using line 6 pod was that u go to the eq section of the pedal, the far right top knob (Hi Gn) turn it all the way left to -12.8 db, And just below it the hi freq all the way to the right 9.3k. then to smooth out the bass set the lo gain all the way to the left and the lo freq between 50 and bout 140.And to get a more tight sound playing with any setup is get a gud chorus pedal, set the speed as low as it can go, then the depth all the way up and level at bout 30-40%.Very important is that the chorus pedal must be post in ur effects chain....(Pod x3 has sum nice chorus modulated pedals) And if using podx3 that has dual tone, like doubling when u record(to get a fat sound),same thing applies, use the same settings tone1 for tone 2 panning each channel slightly left and right.
U really can get any tone out of the x3 xt, it just takes time, and knowing ur equipment you are playing with it really helps.(Strengths and weakness of amp u use ect. compensating for it using the pedal u r using.
Remember to use a gate pedal, or if the amp or pedal has a gate included turn it on.
