I'll confess that it's more aesthetics than anything else. Also, although Teles with rosewood boards may not be
as bright, they're certainly plenty twangy compared to other types. Also, my original Tele GAS came from Syd Barret's Esquire (although I wouldn't forgo a neck pickup).
