Music Store service levels?

I went to a music store this morning the first time since Andy closed his shop. There was a great Tele just itching to join my other guitars. I was seriously tempted however the service was (oh there wasn't any) so I left without the Tele. If music stores want to sell gear then they need to provide the service. Saddle and Nut

And what part of best are we rating here? Yes the Parlatones are possibly the bissgest act in SA and possibly biggest musical export, that by no means makes them "the best" I dont think there is a "best" when it comes to music.

I will say Table Mountain was to cold due to its very strange geographic makeup...
Joburg was devoid of all tree life, and way to large, also behind every tree was someone trying to steal your car.

But if you claim there is no high profile band out there, worthy or not
then we have no discussion here.

I really dont know what to say without getting into a personal perhaps
ugly debate with you.
Im trying to think what it is that blind a man so much
that he completely refuses to make any acknowledgement to the quality
of bands out there.

these bands i mentioned are top selling, top booked bands, who get
50k and up per gig a few times a week.
they sell huge amounts of albums, they are regarded famous by most...
what is it that YOU fail to see?
or is it the rest of use who are blind?

I think the words you look for are "they are SA's most commercially succesful pop rock act."

High Profile, yeh they do classify as that in terms of local music.

Also remember though money does not classify high profile. The Pixies were high profile and broke....

Foster the People are high profile and slugging it out touring, Smith Westerns are high profile and broke....

Hey everyone relax a bit don't get so personal, I just made a comment about bad service thats all did not mean for this to be a slagging match. Point taken from one of the comments lets also be good customers and respect the fact that we cant play all the guitars in the shop. I guess salespersons do get peeved off with customers who always purchase small items but expect to play all the top guitars in the store. There has to be a balance I guess. Am taking the day off tomorrow to go on a Guitar shop excursion, may perhaps find another guitar you never know, will give feedback.

Well the guitar shop did not turn up any guitars today but I got a BOSS AC3 Acoustic simulator as I have been wanting to try some stuff out.

This does not warrant a new thread so I'll just tack it on here. I need to vent, that's all.

GORRAMMIT I hate dealing with music shops. Was just informed by some genius that 'no one makes a 37 key midi controller keyboard'. I'm LOOKING at said pieces of equipment by Roland and others.

It's fine you don't have it in the store, but FFS at least ACT like you know SOMETHING. "No one" makes a thing like that. Sigh.

The worst is, I *knew* it was pointless phoning but like a bee butting its head repeatedly against a window trying to get out I stupidly told myself 'maybe this time'.

Ok rant out.

Similarly, I was in a shop a while ago, looking to buy a midi controller as well. They were revamping and expanding a bit so the shop was a mess of things moved around, and I could not find the midi controllers. I ended up asking a salesman, who responded:

"A midi controller? What's that?"

Needless to say I left....

I crit when stores give me shoddy service (and i have done that openly before) but i like to applaud when they give me great service.

Anton (who has been mentioned in this thread previously) gave me most AWESOME service this past week.

That level of service is humbling for me.

I've had nothing but the best service at Musiek Wereld, Bellville & Marshall Music, Tokai.
Kudos to Kobus, Carlo & Frikkie @ Musiek Wereld and Mike @ Marshall Tokai.
Gareth (Vintage Vibe) at Marshall, Cape Town CBD also deserves an honourable mention.
