Logan Custom Tele Refinish - B&S Custom Guitars

Ok, so I bought this about a year ago at a very good price. One of the reasons why the price is so low is that the finish is nitro with no filler AT ALL - so every hole etc. in the wood will be seen and the grain shows through the finish. No problem for me and I upgraded the pickups, bridge and tuners from standard. The neck is a Mighty Mite. While the guitar is great I wanted to refinish it and go for something slightly different to my usual wood/natural finishes. I also was interest to see what the build quality was like under the paint - that's where it counts as well. I have been asked about the Logans a number of times and have recommended them with the caveat of the price point and the related finish which Bob Logan is very up front about. So I contacted B& S Guitars (NeonGecko) and started discussions around the refinish. Wayne (NeonGecko) and partner Ben are great guys who are both professional and down to earth (a combination that is not always that common - much like common sense I suppose ) with a no nonsense approach that suits me. We will only be refinishing the body and adding a pearloid pickguard. Wayne (NeonGecko) can and I am sure will be adding images of the process to their Facebook page and here as well as it is always great to share these processes with the familly.... ? So here are some before pics:

I gotta apologise for the k@k pic... My phone takes great pics, but then I put it onto my new pc to post aaand... It looked terrible so I tweaked the colour a touch.

Umm, so the lesson learned is this, make sure that your new 'puter's screen is calibrated first before doing said colour tweaks… :-[

An awesome pic is posted and everyone apologises for its quality

Will do a few later with both pickguards to show the difference.

rikus

That is stunning! You must be over the moon. Looking forward to seeing pics of both pickguards.

I've got a few questions regarding the pickguards which I'll PM you about.

Ja thats very nice hey. The pg is perfect for that burst. Was thinking to myself why non of the Makers (well non that I've seen) are doing a similar burst. It's bleddie gorgeous and will sell like hot cakes, I'm sure of it.

Haha, after doing this guitar it has certainly opened doors to possible bursts like the one used on Roy's guitar. We will be doing 2 of our Thin-Line Teles in the same sort of burst to see what the market response is like, but your comment is certainly encouraging...

My greatest learning in life was "Relax - there is more than one right answer"

racman

You misunderstand "Wizard" - I've found my right answer as can be seen in the pic above. But others have asked to see the Vintage Pearl pickguard to establish if it would be their right answer ... ? ?

And I like your right answer. A lot.

But a black one would've been righter.

Man what a beaut.... love the look of your tele man.

As promised here is a rather basic pic with the aged Pearl pickguard overlay:

rikus

That looks great!

You were right... that would look great on my strat! I think this just clinched it!

racman

"Rikus" it is slightly creamier than the pic due to the flash, but is really great and I think it would look stunning on your Strat.... well, not a Tele pickguard but a Strat pickgurad in aged white pearl ? ?

Norman86

i think i prefer the tortoise!!

in my head, before i saw either, i preferred the pearl. but having seen them both, the tortoise is definitely a better fit for this guitar. but the pearl ain't no bad, bad thing neither...

rikus

I agree, the tort works on this guitar due to the maple neck... had it been a rosewood neck I suspect it might have been a tad too dark.
