Ok, so I bought this about a year ago at a very good price. One of the reasons why the price is so low is that the finish is nitro with no filler AT ALL - so every hole etc. in the wood will be seen and the grain shows through the finish. No problem for me and I upgraded the pickups, bridge and tuners from standard. The neck is a Mighty Mite. While the guitar is great I wanted to refinish it and go for something slightly different to my usual wood/natural finishes. I also was interest to see what the build quality was like under the paint - that's where it counts as well. I have been asked about the Logans a number of times and have recommended them with the caveat of the price point and the related finish which Bob Logan is very up front about. So I contacted B& S Guitars (NeonGecko) and started discussions around the refinish. Wayne (NeonGecko) and partner Ben are great guys who are both professional and down to earth (a combination that is not always that common - much like common sense I suppose ) with a no nonsense approach that suits me. We will only be refinishing the body and adding a pearloid pickguard. Wayne (NeonGecko) can and I am sure will be adding images of the process to their Facebook page and here as well as it is always great to share these processes with the familly.... ? So here are some before pics:

Sorry Slyd, but this refinish is happening in real time. After a little experimenting we eventually settled on a colour. I had to wait for the "test" coat to dry properly over the weekend. Tomorrow I'll sand that splotchy coat off and get the proper coat on... ?

Ok, so here are the pics before the burst is applied. It won't be your traditional burst but a gentle fade into a "brownish" burst on the edges -= no black, and the edge grain will still show through.

Pics of the burst should be up in the next few days or so....

So I woke up a little late to this little problem. The original pickguard did not use standard mounting screw hole locations. This can be a problem when wanting change to a new pickguard in future. So of course I spoke to Wayne about this AFTER the first coats of finsih was applied!!!

Wayne decided to "turn" 2mm Ash pins to plug the existing screw holes. this will tehn be sealed and then touched up with an airbrush. Then he'll go onto the burst.

A close up of the side. The brief was for a translucent burst to showcase the end grain. I didn't want the typical black or dark edged busrt and wanted more of a gradual darkening fade to the edge. It was critical to me that I wanted to be able to see the end grain. Looking stunning in my opinion:

NB:I am looking at either a Tortoiseshell and/or aged white pearloid pickguard - anyone know who stocks these (preferably Fender parts as I know they will be consistent in the hole placing)?

I can't believe how much better the guitar looks with the brown and the slight burst. Man it's awesome ? Can't wait to see what's next ?

Thanks ET. How far are you with putting the Ibby together. Just wondering if you have noticed a tonal difference?

Ibby is doing well hey ? Had it re-wired and also blocked the Floyd Rose so it stays in place ? It definitely has made an improvement hey. I can feel the body resonate more and it is slightly louder unplugged. Still think the Floyd and the steel nut is sucking some of it's tone out though. Going to upgrade the pickups sometime though, they also not the best. But ye the re-spray definitely did help a lot ?

Well, yet again we had a rethink and Wayne decided to go lighter on the body which would then mean a lighter burst as well. I just got the pics which already looks amazing and it is not even finished yet - still got to do the sealer and then polishing etc, but I must say I am really impressed with this.

I have ordered both an "Vintage White Pearloid" and a Tortoiseshell pickguard from the same supplier so we will see what looks better when it all arrives.

The edge is also now lighter which is very cool. I know I am biased but this looks fantastic!

Very nice! I'm loving that finish! It just keeps getting better. I'm keen to see what those pickguards look like. I'm contemplating something similar.
