I found an ad on gumtree of a dude selling strat, tele and les paul bodies and necks. Which gave the the idea that rather than modding a guitar Ill make a new one.

So the basic idea is to get all the parts and put my own guitar together. Nothing too fancy. Seems like a cool plan to me. I choose what pups go in, what colour it will be etc!

I know there are lots of guys on the forum who have done this so what tips and advise do you guys have for me?

Also I do plan to buy a Fender neck rather.
NicoVlogg is selling a lot of kit for your tele build.
    Buy them quickly ?

      +1 to that

also building your own guitar can be more costly than buying off the rack ........ and also you won't know you using the right pup's ect until you buy them then try em......where if you buy already built guitars one can compare them easily with others ..... and pick the one yyou like..cos we all know even if you select on paper whats the best wood for body/hardware/pups /neck be it rosewood board or maple (but i recommend maple for a tele ) but as i say even if on paper they all top end parts no gaurentee that the guitar will have any mojo .we always talk about trying out a batch of brand new same model guitars and each one will be slightly different despite the same specs....... so a build is very much trial and error and you may find yourself changing a lot as the build goes and then it's all money spent

but yes the idea is awesme ,
Thanks for pointing that out Kiera. I think I got a little over excited about putting my own guitar together and didnt put a lot of though into what it involves, costs etc

Anyway, I went onto that website that lets you make your own custom guitar and this is what I got

Not much point in putting my own tele together really. I just need to find a white on and change the pick guard. That should be too difficult.

Ill still do it one day. Or maybe Ill start now and make it a life long project ?
Assembling a parts-caster is great fun.
          Don't discount it.
Afterwards you really know how it works.

Very true. You'll basically never need to pay for a setup again, and you'll be able to pick a guitar up off the shelf and immediately tell what's wrong/right with it (hopefully!).
So its a bit like rebuilding a vintage car, or an aeroplane. (I know a little about that)

I was on the Fender website and it looks like you can olny buy deluxe white telecasters. The standards dont come in white. Can anyone confirm this?

Don't build / assemble a guitar to be your absolute dream machine.
Put it together to make mistakes, to learn and to to find out what you like
