Arrrggghhh!!! Hallo, I don't know is this topic has already been covered.......I'm new ?
Who is your favorite overall vocalist in any band?
I dig Corey Taylor [Slipknot & Stone Sour] he as one of the most versatile singing voices in my books, lekke deep growl and stunning normal singing voice!!!
Some more favorites:
Jonathan Davis [KoRn]
Robb Flynn [Machine Head]
Tim McIlrath [Rise Against]
James Hetfield [Metallica]
Stevie Ray Vaughan
There are so many, I can't name them all!
deanBailey
Mikael Akerfelt from Opeth
Joe Duplantier from Gojira
Devin Townsend from Strapping Young Lad
Is all I can think of at the moment.
dyllels
haha.. dean posted a similar reply while i was typing.. but i dont want to delete what i wrote so here is my reply ?
i must say. i think Mikael Åkerfeldt (bloodbath/opeth) is definately my favourite.
you wouldn't think that all the different vocal types came from the same person ?
good example.. compare 'damnation' cd by opeth to 'the fathomless mastery' by bloodbath.
definately my favourite 'overall' vocalist 8)

Matt Heafy - Trivium (when you hear the new album-Shogun-you'll know why)
Amy Lee - Evanescence (chick can sing ?)
Robb Flynn - Machine Head (perfected the art of the sing scream)
James Hetfield - Metallica (just because it's Metallica)
those are the ones i can think of at the moment...but my favourite of 'em all is Matt Heafy, his voice has definitely gotten alot better from Ascendancy and The Crusade, check out their new album Shogun...

Freddie Mercury
Vintage-Vibe
Male vox:
+ 1 to Freddie - best male vox of all time
Robert Plant in early Led Zeppelin up to Page & Plant Unledded
DVD (maybe not VERSATILE)
Joe Cocker
Ian Gillian ( Deep Purple)
David Lee Roth - Van Halen
Both vocalists from AC/DC - unique
Our moustached short friend from TOTO ...
The singer from Europe - just for "The Final Countdown" performance
Chris Cornell when he's on form is STUNNING
Bon Jovi back in the day (anyone listened to Alice Cooper's band on the "Poison" album ?)
Rob Halford - Judas Priest
Sting is always great
McCartney and Lennon (and Harrison when he tried hard - a poiquance and subtlety second to none)
Eric Clapton - watch his Hyde Park DVD - his voice gets BETTER and BETTER ! (See discussion Norio & Squonk & I are having)
Crosby Stills, Nash (& Young)/The Byrds
Simon & Garfunkle
Roger Daltry (The Who) when on form
Robbie Williams on "What We Did Last Summer" DVD - brilliant performance by all players/singers - and I WASN'T a fan 'til then !
Eddie Vedder surprised me on The Who: live at Royal Albert Hall
Matt Bellamy from Muse is good, but tires the ears after a while
Daniel Johns from Silverchair isn't pitch perfect live, but he has a great range - for those of you who haven't heard "Neon Ballroom" & "Diorama" give it a go !
Dave Owens (Lithium - SA band - international quality - if you don't know then ask Alan)
- Obviously this is mostly rock
Female vox:
Skin (ex Skunk Anansie - a female Freddie Mercury live)
Ms. Wilson (Heart) - there's a DVD floating around where she and her sister cover "Black Dog" and some other Zep songs - and put Robert Plat to shame in the process ...
Christina Aguilera (the ONLY fem pop vocalist to blow my mind on live performance and vocal technique)
Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders) & Fiona Apple (first album) - sexy, sultry, husky warm rich voice - how I like my female vocals
Janis Joplin
Kate Bush for some of our older friends
Sheryl Crow has her moments
Wezz - BEG to differ: Amy of Evanescence can't hold pitch live to save her life - when she came here she was terrible - people walked away at Cokefest !
Martyr
ok,well i haven't seen her live,only heard the album...i'll check it out ?
Squonk
Who has seen David Coverdale, or heard him live. I always thought he had a powerful voice.
Daltry - Try "the who live at leeds" , quite a good album actually
Jon Anderson - although he's lost it a bit now
You might laugh at me but I have always enjoyed Geddy Lee from Rush

And i must say the best must be Leona Lewis. she has got an awesome voice and i have the original backing track of Footprints in the sand. Awesome song

Most people can only sing in two octaves....Stephen Lynch the comedian can do 5..
Another notablemention is Jack Black of Tenacoius D man that guys got a set of pipes!
Heath

DNC
For my Phil Labonte form all that remains is just about the best there is ... He can sing ver melodic and clean and the go form the bath tub sound to 80's metal high pitch screaming.
From a guitar point if view I would say Matt Tuck for Bullet for my valentine ... check ok te live stuff.. The stuff he plays and sings at the same time is just crazy!!!

Good post VV! I'd add in Nina Hagen to the women and would rather forget Robbie Williams (or just smack him in that smug looking kisser of his). Much as I hate to say it, George Michael has also impressed me at times.
