Hey Guys
I just got given a line6 DL 4 Delay pedal. I have a boss dd-20 which i've been using for quite a while and love. I must say it's actually nice to have both and therefore maybe kind of hard to have a favorite.
There is no doubt that the dd-20 is more functional, BIGGEST THING is that you can tap in a dotted eighth note (and various others), which is a very popular delay sound. Also you can set tempo times eg: 128BPM, i find this really useful since my drummers all play with click tracks, so the delay is always tight and in sync.
On the dl4's side imo the delay somehow sound better, more smooth i reckon and you have much more variety. Each delay has a tweak and tweeze option which you can get some cool sounds out of. I love delays with modulation and between the 2 the dl4 has more depth and you can hear the weird mod break up in the delays. Very cool. Some people have moaned about a volume drop, it is possible and i would like to try mod my dl4 if possible. I know keeley has a mod for the dl4, but it's way over priced imo.
So anyway, i will be using both, although for function sake if i had to choose i would go with the dd20. My dl4 in front of my drive pedals and dd20 for all my sync stuff after the drive. (It's nice to have both options, give different sounds).
Love to know what you guys think!

They're both pretty good options. The DD-20 is built really solidly, but I don't like the way the tap tempo works. I just couldn't get comfortable using mine. I haven't used a DL4, but I did have an MM4 for a while and I found it to be pretty good. Abit to big though. If you need a few more banks, tap tempo and the ability to do delay on delay in the same pedal, the nova delay is a great option. I've had mine for a couple of months now and I'm really happy with it. It's also way smaller than the DD-20 or DL4 and built like a tank. It's a 12V pedal, but I've been running mine of my 9v 1 spot and it works fine.
That said the DD-5 is still my all time favourite. I can't quite explain it, but it's the best digital delay I've heard/used to date.
