I feel a lot safer driving 123 km/h in Europe than I do driving 123 km/h in SA, since in Europe you won't run the risk of bumping into the back of a 1400 bakkie doing 23 km/h being overtaken by a truck at 24 that you don't see because of the smokescreen they jointly produce out of their exhausts and because their respective taillights are out of order and switched off since it is not that dark just yet. Speed differences kill more than speed.
Not true, speed kills more than speed difference. If you scream at 160km/h and crash into the back of a car doing 120 (that's a speed difference of 40km/h) you will likely roll your vehicle and probably end up dead. If you drive at 60km/h and crash into the back of a car doing 20 (that's also 40km/h) you'll likely end up with a bad whiplash.
The point is, if you're at speed and things go wrong, they go very wrong. If you're slow and things go wrong, you often have time to compensate and even if you can't, the results are still much less severe.
But all of this is academic. The fact of the matter is, there are clearly signposted speed limits. If you exceed those speed limits you are as guilty of breaking the law and endangering others' lives as the taxis with their yellow-lane driving, weaving through traffic and unroadworthy vehicles that we all love to hate.
Two wrongs doesn't make a right and if the taxi driver gets away with flagrantly disregarding the law, it still gives us no right to do the same. Maybe if you and I weren't speeding like we obviously do, considering the huge amounts of money you all accuse the metro police of making, then they'd have more time and man hours to dedicate to enforcing taxi roadworthiness and such.
I guess this thread is no longer about funny graffiti, no?
