Neck Plate

Hey Chaps,

I would like to purchase an additional neck plate for my MiM Strat, to get engraved.

Should I purchase online or do the local shops stock these?

Also, how difficult is it to attach the new one?

I am not so sure those plates are all exactly the same size, but you might be able to check up front.
It's an easy job if you have the right screwdriver, but you should still take care not to marr the head of the screw while trying to tighten without applying enough pressure.

If you want a cheapie to engrave yourself, buy a neckplate from terryd.co.za

Stupid small money!
If you want a Fender F style neck plate or Fender Corona etc type... its around R150 excl importation...
Some places will ship to SA.
Thats how i got my F style neck plate!

Looks similar to yours, didnt get the model number.

unless you want the neckplace to have something personal on it - then its A LOT cheaper to buy one already engraved off eBay... I just got mine reading "fender, Coronoa, california" delivered to my door for R110.00...

due to the size of the neckplate - any engraving this side has to be done by laser etching.. cheapest quote I got for just putting the word "Fender" on a blank plate of mine was R385.00..!!

you can buy blank plates online for about R20,00 and find guys in the states who will laser etch for you cheaper than doing it here.

the 2 engravers i went too were unable to engrave the word Fender on the neckplate - both saying it had to be laser etched.

It's difficult to engrave chrome and if the plating is thin, they'd likely go through it. Might be easier with an unplated stainless steel neckplate.

Ah I see where the problem lies.

Where are these stainless steel versions available?

Check with an engraver first, it's a guess. Glendale makes the best stainless steel plates, followed by Callaham. Guitarfetish does a cheapie, but it's not anywhere near as nice as the other two.
