I'm wanting to invest in one of these soon, probably one of the Boss ones (seem to be the industry standard?). They seem pretty decent with the available features, etc.

However, one thing I did want to find out first is the following. I assume these loop stations are used in the same way as one would use normal pedals into an amp, ie. before the pre-amp stage. If this is the case, I assume if one wanted distortion into the loop station, you'd have to use a pedal before the loop station, thus rendering the amp's own distortion useless?

In fact, if one used the drum patterns and any recording on the loop station, and then used the amp's distortion, everything coming out of the pedal would undergo the same treatment as the guitar signal into the amp?

Am I correct with these statements, or am I way off the mark here?
You are correct. If you are using your amps built in distortion it would be best to run the loop station through the fx loop of the amp. That is of coarse if your amp has one. I just run my looper at the end of my chain.
