Vibrolux vs Carmen ghia (Oh Damn)

I have got a disease that I find fault in any gear...

My ghia is a great amp, but I am feeling like I want a more open less compressed sound :/ stupid I know.

So I got offered a blackface Vibrolux for my Ghia (Fulltone Catalyst also included in the trade for my ghia)

I hate the idea of parting with my new amp that I love but at the sametime feel the Vibrolux could be more my thing ☹

Yaaa this is always the dilemma, too many variables in the pack, Which is why I advocate the equipment fractional ownership concept.

Eg. for the money you paid for one amp or guitar you could feasibly have access to 5 different ones …. IF you choose your partners carefully

i must say make the swop........... we all been thru juggling gear and buying what we think is perfect only to discover we really want something else ........

i say be hedonistic about it it and own what really floats your boat musically

since finding our sound with that guitar or amp that strikes the creative/inspirational core of our being .......... is essential..........

Seriously dude. You talk about creating your own sound, but you can never stick with anything long enough for it to constitute "your sound." You've got an amazing amp that your bought for very good reasons. This flip-flopping isn't doing you any favours.

I always vote for the change. Get the Vibrolux and you will be happy for a few months or until something else comes along.
You may even go running back to good ol' Dr Z but then at least you will know and be happy.

I had one guitar from when I was 14 years old till i finished university at 26 (no money to buy anything)
sicne then I have had a bunch of gear....new gear always challenges you to experiment with sound
If we had the money and space, i assume, we would not swap it the whole time i guess.... ?

It doesn't. Not for anybody and certainly not for electric guitarists from what I can see. Even the guys with a signature sound and lots of money keep on modifying their setup to fine tune their sound.

I think this might be a good thing. Perhaps the difference between the ideal sound you hear in your head and what you get in the real world spurs one one.

absolutely right Bob ...... cos really we are artists..and art is not stagnant it's continually evolving and so will our needs for the tools to do the job ........ so yes one can achieve a sound for now but that should shift as you grow artistically

I had a 1966 Vibrolux Reverb, original Jensen Red Label speakers, GEC KT66 power tubes, the holy grail of Blackface Amps.

Like an idiot I sold it to someone in the USA for $2000...just thinking about it gives me heartburn, big mistake selling it. ☹

I am going to come across a bit full of myself here, and I apologise for this ahead of it... and some of what I will say has already been touched on in part.
No artist should ever be content with there method, or sound in our case.... I believe some of the best peices of Art, Sound, Film, come from trying to put into existance something which one has a simple concept of.... Trying to reach that point....

If I was to turn around and say "oh there we go thats my sound for life that would be probably the worst thing I could do"
If an Artist were to say well that picture was a hit let me paint 1000 morel ike it that would be terrible....
If a Film Maker decided he would copy a blockbuster that would be bad.... hence we get terrible film sequals....

Art is ever evolving and everchanging and thats what keeps it on the edge and current, the second its not current Art dies....

That said I am keeping the Ghia I think... I have not used it enough ot leave it yet, maybe soon.... or for the right thing... but for now I have just started using it...
