deefstes wroteShould I perhaps send you the files by carrier pigeon? ?
Dude, we heard about that over here. Was that a joke or for real? ? LOL.....flipping bird get's the mail there faster than E mail. ?
Norman86 wrote only the wah type effect which puts me off a bit (too much wah for my liking)
Yeah me too man, I'd not ever use that much. However, I tried to cop how Jimi did it. For those who don't know the song, it is off the Jimi Hendrix Experience "Axis: Bold As Love" album......to me the album that really showcases Jimi's outstanding, exemplary and almost unbelievable rhythm guitar prowess......... as well as amazing songwriting. Thanks for the words friend.
Raithza wrote bass is a bit boomy but otherwise 10/10. really love the drums' sound.
Thanks so very much. Yeah, I was going for the bass sound Kramer got on the album....that trebly "sproingy" high mid's top end yet with a full bottom.....(hmmmm, just the way I like my wimmen's ? ?) but I fell short a bit. I worked on that a lot in the mix. Yes....the drums....... there is a swirly deal going on, very audible if you solo the drums. I realize now that when I constructed that track I thought had the tempo wrong so since the entire track was built, I used Elastic Audio to alter it and it introduced artifacts because I had never done that before.
But thanks. This was a great exercise for me...I delved into stuff in my DAW's editing capability and just different mixing things that I had not previously spent any time on. Incidentally, the bass sounds killer in my studio....I spent a ton of time removing the boom.......obviously I need to revisit my studio's acoustic treatment or calibrate the low EQ on my monitors.
deefstes wrote.......you put a lot of work into this one and I love it.
Thanks buddy, I appreciate that. Your track is super and the vibe is great. You get a really cool Hank Marvin sound in places and I like how you arranged that. Considering you don't have an interface and the difficulties you have monitoring...you did really well. You are going to love it when you get better gear!
Doc Phil you really nailed it and that is some
really nice drum programming. The only thing I could not wrap my head around was.......considering your level of musicianship, the quality of the recording and all the equipment you have........was the beginner status? ? ? ??? ? ? LOL.....I'm just funnin' ya, and it's all good. Between you and me the ranking thing could use revisiting anyway. I was going to enter as a Beginner for a laugh....but I could not bring myself to do it as I am not well known enough here and feared the humor would be lost in translation. ?
Nice work buddy! You did good there.
seventhson,
G-Man,
stu ..... all really killer heavy stuff.
Seventh the guitar is a tad loud, buries the drums. Nice guitar work man, same for you
G-Man....some really fast riffing going on there.
Stu, is that an original? If it is, it's sweet bru'. I dig the riff......it's a killer hook and I like when it slow's down also. You should develop that if it's your song.
Jacquesg4j....really cool song and I liked the solo...the octaves were a nice touch. This could be a movie song.....the title/chorus really seems like it would really work well in a film. Nice work.
mity88 A very interesting submission.....I really enjoyed the sound of the E Bow. I have never even tried one in all my years of playing. I can see having one in the studio for sure. Good shot.
While all the submissions had things about them that made me want to vote for them, in the end, I voted for
Hammeron.
I love this track and can definitely see it in a film. The first :57secs or so are killer and I can see that featured with it then either fading out or being dropped way below the dialogue/action after about 1:00.....and around 2:50 or so being more featured again. There is so much tension at times between the theremin and guitar. Good choice not adding anything else.......the only thing I can imagine in there is a shaker but not even as a rhythm part....just as an effect........ very sparse, like the sound of a rattler's tail rattling, perhaps one or two instances spread far apart....but still......just these two instruments.....perfect. Nice work young lady.
It was great being a part of this. Thank you to
everyone for the nod and the kind words. It was really super to interact with you all in this competition. The entries were all really of a high standard.
Suggestion: (if I may)........whoever wins, please consider keeping the topic for the next challenge something more like this challenge was.....at least in the sense that more people can feel something and not a spacey or difficult one that folks cannot imagine what to do with it. Just a thought but look at how the openness of this challenge brought in entries........largely because people feel less threatened in a way....it leaves things open for people to do their own thing and not have to interpret something. This is best left for experienced composers really. Just a thought. Hope I am not treading on toes.
