  • Weekend with Journey, Foreigner, Incubus and Young the Giant

So I got some free tickets this week to go see Journey and NightRanger and Foreigner.... Then the night after I had some tickets to see Incubus and Young the Giant.
All in the same venue...

So the first night I went and saw more htan my share of cheesy hair rock, extended solos and some pretty out of date music. It was fun it made me laugh a bit. The graphics behind them looked as if they were designed in the 80s and they never bothered to switch them...

All in all the stuff that really bigged me about Journey and co... was the whole night I did not see one bit of REAL gear on stage, and all they did have alot of was crazy lights and the same solo in every song. the crowd seemed to only care when they played there hits....

Incubus the next night was a world of differance..... the sound was WAY better, there was some very nice gear sitting on stage (some intresting gear to) Further they really seeemed to excel in there song writing and performance. the graphics behind them were amazing in certain parts of the show.... the show was amazing.

Young the giant compared to Journey Foreigner and Nightranger was no comparison... young the giant are a new band, and had an amazing show. probably better than all 3 80s groups combined... there just seemed to be more feeling.......

Anyhow thats my weekend...
Journey i always felt were good ..... wheel in the sky is a rocking song ......

Foreigner and nightranger i never got into..........sister christian an all that ....meh

i guess these guys trade the melancholy circuits eh .....catering for the sentimental lot searchign for teir lost youth ....and their is big bucks in that ...hats off to em for still working the circuit after all this time.
No surprise personally, Incubus have been known to have an amazing live show. Would loooooove to see Incubus.

lol, you laughed at Mick Jones...why, did he tell some funny jokes? ?
The guy wrote and played some of the best rock riffs ever, IMO.

I'm amazed that you even went. I wouldn't have - I'd have passed the tickets on. I have, as you know, nothing against musicians of a certain age (in fact the best show I ever went to was a solo show by a guy who'd just got his bus pass), but those guys are peddling nostalgia now and I'm not keen on that. I also think the hair rock thing gets a bit undignified past 40.

In fact I'm intrigued that Journey and Foreigner are still touring (assuming there are any original members left in those bands). Either they are making mega bucks playing to the guys who want to have some fun now that the kids are out of the house, or they owe lots of money and have to keep at it.

Hmmm.... I always am curious about what gear guys are using, but it wouldn't bug me that much if all the stuff was in the wings or underneath the stage or if they were playing into Line 6 Pods or whatever. I can recall some gigs where I had a great musical time (which is the most important thing) and either I never saw the gear (Bruce Springsteen) or was having too good a time to pay attention (Bright Blue).
I saw the same bill (Journey, Foreigner & Night Ranger) at the New York State fair about 3 weeks ago, and I partially agree with Mika.. IMO Journey was disappointing, Neil Schon practically played the same lead solo throughout the show and as for his new vocalist Arnel Pineda, neh, that dude should stick to the karaoke bars, there's no way he'd fill Steve Perry's shoes.
Night Ranger didn't do much for me at all,
but Foreigner blew me away, they were by far the best sounding band and I'd still go watch them even if they're 100.

                Plus 1.
Probably wouldn't have gone to the 80s set either. Interesting thing is Incubus guys are all my age (mid-thirties)... ten years from now they may be on a nostalgia circuit too.
