I am getting the following message:
"Chat disabled due to high server load"
☹
Ja I've temporarily disabled it to see if the server load improves. Is it used much? It's always empty when I have a squiz.
The chatting tends to happen in the evening

Will this ever be re-instated? I kinda enjoyed using it in the evenings.. If not can we make another solution?

It wasn't as widely used as it once was. BBM or Google Chat could replace it for the few that made regular use of chat.
Yea it only really used by 5 or so guys every night from 7-10
Yeah, can't we enable it from say 7-12 in the evenings? The forum is then not busy and there should be some spare cycles to run the chat?

What are you saying? GFSA is busier during office hours? ?

                  Yes.
Hi guys ? I'm just moving house this week but bump this thread next week and I'll see what I can do ?

Bring back the evening chats ?
Give Norio a chance please folks - he's on limited connectivity at the moment.
                          Thanks Al ?

Okay so I'm kinda back. Lots of work to do but I can likely fit this in somewhere. I'm keen to hear suggestions on how to do this.

                          So far, we have:

                          - Switch chat on between 7 and 12 at night.
                          - Don't bring chat back.
                          - Use other services to achieve the same result.

I'm particularly interested in option 3 but not Google Talk or BBM - I'm thinking along the lines of IRC. Do we have any old hands here? I could set up a page all about our IRC channel, we could run it on one of the ZANet servers (org or net, depending on whether there's any particular preference here - I used to be on org but later switched to net and now don't IRC at all).

This will be a nice way to keep chat (I can even install a java client on the chat page) without adding strain to the server.

                          Thoughts?

I was going to suggest IRC, used to sit on zanet and lagnet back in the day, not opposed to it and the java frontend will help the less technical guys to still be able to chat.
Yeah, the Java will be cool.
