To me, that guitar shape in the original post looks more suited to a bass than a guitar... I really don't like those extended "horns" a lot of basses have.
When standing, I find the Explorer shape is far more comfortable than the Strat shape, but that could be something more standing practice with the Strat would fix. I don't prefer either when sitting, but a Strat is far more practical to lug from room to room or to doodle with on a couch.
My favourite shape though is the older Explorers (most of the newer copies are too edgy). I had an image of the '58 Explorer here, but decided to post the Ken Lawrence one instead, the headstock suits the guitar better imho:
