Premier League

How good are the two Manchester teams looking? I know its early days, but I reckon the only team to challenge them for the title will be Chelsea. Being a United fan I am really enjoying the start to the season - four games, none of which were the easiest on paper and we have scored 18 goals already (Rooney has scored more than every other Premiership team apart from City so far ?). Its a pity that both Welbeck and Cleverley, products of the youth system have sustained injuries just when they're getting a run in the team, but Smalling has been a revlation at right back and Jones is the future captain of the club, possibly also England. Benfica midweek and Chelsea on Sunday... the big games just keep on coming!

As indicated in your rant Giggsy, money has ruined football..

When you say how can Man U compete with the riches of a Man City.. Well now think of the Portuguese and French leagues who perpetually develop youngsters for the big teams to come along and buy them.. Can't compete plain and simple.

The days of seeing Steaua, eindhoven, anderlecht, ajax, benfica etc in the finals of europes elite competition are all but gone because they don't have the money to compete and pay the salaries that these clubs pay..

Also changed is that players now play for the highest bidders, not because of love for the club.. Ie, not too disimilar to mercenaries..

A tight finish like that is good for the game in general. It had me following the EPL action again for the first time in years. Must admit that I was rooting for City though. Nothing against ManU mind you, just felt more inclined to support City.

Yip, look at Gyan, fantastic World Cup, fantastic start to his Sunderland career, now playing in the UAE... And Anelka, player/manager in China? With Drogba, scorer in the FA Cup final, probably to join him too? You cant tell me that they are going there for footballing reasons.

United lost on goal difference.
Wouldn't they have won if they'd scored more goals then?
?

Glory, Glory Manchester City!!!
Let's hope you have broken the never ending curse that was the Red Devil.
My Dad, who is a die-hard Reds fan was beside himself with joy!
We look forward to watching United slide into obscurity.

MikeM

^5 Hammeron.

United are gonna fade away like Blackburn :roflmao:

Maybe you should write them an original, that's our (Man United) song ..... ?

So is your dad a City or a United fan? The Reds are United!! ?

Hammeron wrote We look forward to watching United slide into obscurity.

Wishful thinking! City will only ever win the league in 2056! They can only do it once every 44 years!! We have won it 19 (NINETEEN) times ?
City had on shirts that had the number 12 on it (meaning 2012 champs), obviously to BS their fans into thinking they won it 12 times .... ?

But all that said .....Congratulations to City, they deserved to win this year, they played well!!!

No they're not, the Reds are Liverpool, Man United are the Red Devils.

giggsy

Apparently City are doing a trophy parade through Manchester. No idea why, as they've already seen it 12 times with United...

And what's the difference between Manchester United and Liverpool? 37 points ?

MikeM

I heard this was Sir Alex Ferguson's favorite movie.

Never write off Liverpool, they have been the very best many times before, and, as the tide is turning so shall it be again.

Not in your lifetime yet though 8)

I can't see this happening. Kenny must go.

They have developed (deteriorated) into a mid table team. Huge clearouts and a decent Managerial Team and huge chunks of cash are needed.

Kenny stepped in and it seemed all fairy tale like, winning games, but he was reaping what Roy Hodgson had done. Look at the players Kenny bought?
Suarez was a good buy, but over 30 million for Carrol, Jordon "who" Henderson?

It's sad to see them sink so low.

I can comment because I saw my team Derby County go from winning the Championship twice in '72 and '75 and then sliding into the old 3rd Division. We finished 12th in the Championship this Season :-[

ActionArnie

And don't forget no-goals-no-assists man Stewart Downing who cost a princely 20 big ones. Probably the worst buy of the season.

They've never won the premiership. This season just finished was the 20th Premier League season. United have won 12 times. Or rather FERGUSON has won 12 times.

Mind you, last weekend Williams won an F1 race for the first time since 2004, so the dead do sometimes come back to life.

Hammeron

Liverpool are second only to Man United in total British title wins:
Man. United 19
Liverpool 18
Liverpool have won the European cup now the Champions league 5 times which puts them 3rd on the list.
They'll be back, you watch.
