Bro, when you have over fifteen grands worth of pedals, you want proper protection, as well as a quick and easy way to transport and play with. I'd happily pay two grand.

Eish, I guess it way different strokes for different folks Bro.

I have to agree with Aubs and Danny B.
Whoever drops R10k+ on a bunch of pedals and is too cheap to spend R1500 - R2200 on transporting, managing and looking after them has a screw loose.

@Averatu : I want a tidy setup, where the wires are out of site, the pedals are mounted securely and it is easy to grab and go.
I have built a pedalboard in the past, but it took a lot of time, I had to buy some tools, wood etc, all in all it cost me quite a bit. The final product was hardly anything to write home about.
I want something along these line

Cool, just call me the devils advocate, but for R2k+ it better slice and dice and clean my oven too. Its basically a fancy portable burglar gate, and you can have one of those, custom made to size painted in the color of your choice and fully installed keys and all for less. Is it not rather a fad thing happening, like when people started buying bottled water because the people in the movies drink their water from a bottle?
Dont get me wrong, its a brilliant idea, I am a neat freak, this IS a neat and tidy idea, but not worth R2k. If you told me R800, I'd consider it.
I'm probably going to be pelted with mud off all colors for saying this, as I've come to realize for some reason its really a seriously touchy subject around here. Thy holy pedal train.

My thoughts, they look really cool and conveniant, but I would not spend 2k on them... or maybe not when I have other things to buy.... Its like a hardcase for a guitar, its nice but my softcase takes up less space and unless I am a complete Gorilla it should do its job.
These pedaltrains are pretty $$$ when if you do think about it, you could make a wooden bracket with vinyl and velcro and get your significant female to knit you a bag, or tea cosy to transport it in.....
Its funny how we have 200 build threads on amps, and guitars, and pedals... but not one person has tapped into easy cost effective pedalbaords in SA.... The should be easy and fairly cheap to make...... and do the same job as these pedaltrains....
I gig regularly and I a getting ready to go on tour here in the US, not just a small tour, I am going from Florida, to South Carolina, to Norht Carolina, to Georgia, all the way up to New York and Washington..... My pedals with be moved on a slab of wood with velcro, occasionally wrapped in a towel...... maybe one day when I have enough money to play around with I will buy a pedaltrain but for now ..no.
All the artists I have had the luck of seing live lately use DIY boards, or less..... with the exception of minus the bear who used those warwick cases..... the guys who use pedaltrains here in the USA are the very annoying worship guitarists who also care that their hair is perfectly straightened...

Indeed I tried to introduce the idea of a build thread the first time I was put in my place for being a hijacker.

I considered having a pedaltrain built locally, but the anything with aluminium is expensive and then you still need to weld it. As Nick informed me, some places charge R80 a weld. So unless you have contacts, it is going to get pricey. These things are cheap in the states, but shipping here doubles the price.
If you are happy with a slab of wood or a pastic bag ful of pedals more power to you ?

I don't have a PT... yet. I'm waiting until my pedalboard settles down a little more so I know how big to go (or rather what the smallest one I can get away with is). I'm using a home-built wooden job for now, but it adds a lot of weight and offers no protection during transport.
As with any musical item I'm going to use (especially for gigging), I don't mind investing in a well-designed, well-built, functional item that will last me for years. Especially if it's going to protect a whole bunch of other expensive gear too. As with guitar cases, it doesn't make sense to spend tens of thousands on an item (or items in this case) and then skimp on the protection for transport.
So, let's see... It's neat, lightweight, durable, flexible, well thought out, good looking and protects your investments during transport. On the downside, it's more expensive than a plank of wood and has been adopted by a group of players with more money than talent.
Hmmm...?

Just something, how does the soft case protect your pedals when transporting?
Or am i missing something? :-\

Yes you are Norm, it's padded. But a HC would protect it better, however, is more bulky!!

They come with either a soft or a hard case. As with guitar cases, each has it's application, but if it's being packed in with other gear, the hard case version makes the most sense.

I use a Warwick pedalboard, the largest one.
I'm quite happy with it, and paid R800 ?
Hell, it's the cheapest thing about my pedalboard set up...and it keeps all them goodies cosy.

Why aluminium? And if aluminium, why weld? To be tough enough to be continuously stepped on, I'd think it would have to be made from aircraft grade aluminium, which would be as strong and as heavy as 1.6mm mild steel, and also a$$ loads more expensive. Aluminium cant be painted, so it has to be anodized, and to do a single item is not worth while, which again drives the cost up unless you'll have the natural. If you consider mild staal the process is much simpler, off the shelf and therefore cheaper.

Do you have any idea how heavy a mild steel pedalboad the size of the pedaltrain pro would weigh? ???
I dont really see what the arguement is, so you wouldn't spend the money? Does that mean he can't?
MikeM
Aluminium is far lighter as Nick points out, and it can be powdercoated which is FAR superior to just painting the thing.

It's and aluminium alloy, to make it light enough, but still be sturdy.
I'm glad I didn't post about the case I bought for my ES-330, when a gigbag will work just as well and cost a lot less.

I cant see the value in the product at the cost plain and simple. He can by 5 if he wants to, I dont give a flying flip.
As for the weight, having worked with both aluminium and mild steel I can confidently say you're sucking that one out your thumb.

Is that what I get for having a contrary opinion? Guess I'm not a member of this little boys club after all.
Some inventive guy in the Philippines came up with an elegant solution.
