Hey all you Durbanites. I hope to see you at Musketeers, 19 Conabor Rd, Malvern, tomorrow, Tues 16 August and every Tuesday. Come and do your thang at the mic or just come along and reccee the scene for starters. Starts 7:30pm 'till late. Entrance is free.
I started last Tuesday and apart from Dennis my bass player, who came to give me support and to jam along with me as well as Colleen the dedicated regular percussionst, there was just one other player, so I had to work my but off for 3 hours.... all good fun though.
So come on guys, here's our chance for the Durban chapter of GFSA to make the venue our own. Come and introduce yourself, you can't miss me; I'm the bearded geriatric dude under a little black cap who runs around the venue trying to look in control.

Sounds like a great opportunity. I'd go down just to hear Pete play for 3 hours ?
Good chance to finish up those unfinished songs and take them to your public Durbanites.

Open mic nights are a precious thing for those of us who want to have a go at live performance, who have something musical to say but don't see a way to get it said, even if you're a professional player who plays all the time but wants to play something different than the stuff you get paid for.
IMO they're a great service to musicians of all sorts of skill level and experience, and I know from my own experience and from watching other people participate in such events that they're a great way to move your playing and your confidence in your playing along.
Support this event!

Okay, so where are all the Durbs okes?
Guys, this really is a good place to get your live performances off the ground. A very understanding audience and encouraging of new performers. And as Bob says, also a place for the 'pros' to expose their new acts to an audience.
If it wasn't for this venue I probably would still be playing to myself at home... what a waste... it gave me the confidence to face an audience again.
So guys come along and just enjoy the vibe if you are weary of getting up on stage. Tonight's the night.
