  • best guy in Pretoria to take a valve amp to for service/repair?

My Laney Lionheart L20H has gone weird on me. All of a sudden everything just became very bassy and crunchy, it almost sounded as if a speaker tore at first but plugging it into my Marshall Greenback cab it still had the same problems.

The amp is new and probably still under warranty but I know if I take advantage of it the shop would probably send the amp to some guy who doesn't really know anything about valve amps or ship it back to the UK and I probably won't see it again in years.

So maybe someone here could have a look at it or knows the guy to send it to who would do a decent job and not charge me an arm and a leg?

(Yes Alan, ? I saw http://www.guitarforum.co.za/amps-speakers-and-valves/valves-and-good-amp-techs-in-gauteng/ but that list of yours is from 2009, wasn't sure whether it would still be up to date. )
    tubes..?

    have you tried replacing them?

as to your question, i'm sorry but i can't help.
The amp is about 6 month's old, granted I've been playing with it a lot and driving it but I don't want to replace the tubes just to learn that that wasn't the problem you know?
Oh well, you do need backup tubes don't you?

Why don't you ask (the new) Mr. Valve for an update on the old list?
I will but then someone still has to have a look it it, make sure it's biased correctly etc.
Musica instruments gave me the number of a guy in Centurion called Riaan.

Alan has a guy called Martin Horne on his list.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these guys?
Oh, and if one of the guys on Alan't list in Joburg come super highly recommended above the Pta guys i'm willing to take it there.

Just an update - I took the amp to JP le Roux, and he found the fault in no time, repaired it, replaced the blown power tubes and gave the amp a good service. It sounds better than ever, and he had it done in a day. Definitely recommended!

I played one of his amps that he was busy putting together (maybe it was yours?), and without a doubt my next amp is gonna be a JP le Roux custom ?

Fender clean to Marshall crunch to Soldano distortion... what more could you ask for?
Where can I find his contact details? I think I need to have a chat with this master..
