And I am pretty sure that reading Hammerons ode to valves just before going to bed had something to do with it. ?
I was being shown an old looking valve amp by a gent who looks a bit like Rene. Big ass 2 x 12 thing with silver grill cloth. I was playing my baby blue strat through it and was getting that perfect, smokey slow blues tone out of it. Amazing, first time in my life I ever got That Tone. So I asked Rene's doppelganger how the hell is it possible to get That Tone at such low volume? (We could hear each other talk normally while I played.) He then told me that it's because it's 22w and not 100w like other fender amps. So I look at the faceplate and there it is - "Super Twin 22" , written in coca-cola style next to the on/off switch. Remember thinking in my dream, ' remember that, you must buy one of these'.

So.... Anybody know where can I get my hands on one of those Twin/Supersonic/bedroom amps ? ?
And how many other members have had dreams (literally) of that perfect setup, that might not even exist yet. And what was it.
The 22 W Fender amp is the Deluxe Reverb. ...and yes, they're kind of popular amongst blues and roots players. Breaks up much nicer than a Twin, thanks to the valve rectifier. Still loud though, so maybe a Princeton Reverb (15W) is actually more your thing?
Aaah, thanks Alan. The only 22w Fender I knew of was the Supersonic. Any idea if that bluesy driven sound can be had at bedroom levels with the Princeton or the Deluxe?

        Not without an attenuator...
Oh this is spooky - I use a Boss GT-10 (due to my limited budget) which can simulate a gazillion amps. I have been exclusively using using the Fender Twin for about a year. This month I have decided that the Deluxe Reverb is more my sound (a little more muddy and starts breaking up nicely round 8 or 9 on the Strat). I play through a Roland JC50 which has a good 12" my preference if I had the money back in 1982 would have been JC120 which is 2x12

Not at bedroom levels, no. That would be more a 1W amp. The Princeton Reverb is the lowest powered one that gets the BF tone (the Champ is a 5W, but has more of a Tweed vibe).

Actually... the little Vibro Champ XD (also 5W, but with a modelling frontend) is probably the best at getting low volume, bluesy, verge of breakup tones.
Well as most of you know i had my heart set on a fender princeton till i found out it was more than double the price here than in usa , and i didn't think it was worth the 13k they wanted for it here . But my heart was set on like what i understand you want a fender breakup sound and by pure accident i tried out a 2nd hand laney cub that was in my local music store and with both a strat and a tele i get a great tone not the same but similar to a fender princeton and only paid 2 k 2nd hand also the laney cub 12 has a 1w setting which will give you huge drive at bedroom volume but when you need more it's a loud 15 w same as a blues junior and princeton . But don't take my word for it try it out at a store near you and decide for yourself . But the laney i own has kept me so happy i spent the money i had saved up to buy the princeton on a brand new usa standard tele . ? oh and the laney has been doing all my pro gigs since i got it and my tone is fab Well as most of you know i had my heart set on a fender princeton till i found out it was more than double the price here than in usa , and i didn't think it was worth the 13k they wanted for it here . The old silverface 8 watt vibro champ is a bedroom level crunch amp.......
Or the DR Z Mini Z (the ultimate in low level pretty tones)

The older deluxe revebs sound really nice but are hella loud...... the new ones are very brittle I realised recently ☹
