  • Gibson Les Paul Studio Vs PRS SE Singlecut

I am thinking of saving up to get a new electric, I'm debating between the Gibson Les Paul Studio and the PRS SE Singlecut.
Are the Gibson LP Studios any good, or should I rather be aiming at a higher end Gibson or PRS? My thought on Gibsons is that
they generally retain their value, not so sure about PRS's

The guitar is going to be used in rock/experimental vibe (think queen, meets thrice, meets sigor ros, meets bon iver, but really nothing like any of them)
The LP studio is the same as a LP standard except for the binding.
IMHO the LP studio is better than a PRS SE.
If it was me, I would be looking at the 2nd market.
Apperently Music connection has a couple of LP's for sale now, a Tabaco burst Standard and a Black Classic.
      Which studio were you eyeing?
Try play a bunch of each and find one that speaks to you. Better than basing your purchase on specs and brand.
To add my 2 cents, the best bang for the buck LP you will find is not a Gibby Special or a PRS SE, it would be a Tokai Love Rock - at least that is the consensus here on the forum.
If I would buy an LP between 12-17K I'd either be looking for a 2nd hand Gibson standard or Tokai LS160 (something along those lines).

Not really what you're looking for but hope this helps. 8)

Depends if you want a Les Paul or if you want a copy, thats personal preference.

Studio in white would be epic (have a weakness for white guitars), but MikeM is right playing a few is the best option. If
the only difference between the studio and the standard is the binding, then from a budget point of view the studio it is.

I've played a few Tokai's, but never played one that blew me away. Every PRS, and most Gibbos that I've played I like.
I'll go play some and make up my mind. Thanks for the advice.

Where in CT are you? I have a Studio in Faded Cherry, the difference is binding, weight and finish really.
