Hi, has anybody modded their Deluxe Reverb S.F. to black face specs? Was there a significant improvement in tone? What mods were done? What speakers are you guys using in your deluxe reverbs? Ta.

It depends on the circuit of the Silverface - some were nearly identical to BF models, some had just a few changes and others were quite far removed. There weren't that many changes to most of the Deluxe Reverbs.
IMO, most of the SF models sound good stock already (some prefer them to the BF models - especially the Riviera designed model) and most of the mods to BF the early silverfaces, don't do much. Things to look into for the early SF are the cap mod (which is simply clipping the leads of the ceramic caps from power tube grid to ground) and a speaker upgrade from the Oxfords to some Jensens (or similar). If you are a purist, change the 330K resistors from the grids of the Phase inverter to 1 Meg.
Aside from these things, a lot of the differences were down to cap quality ...and most amps from the '60s and '70s have already been recapped (if not they should be and that will make a big difference).

I have an early SF DR which is supposed to have the AB763 circuit like the BF ones. I had it recapped, converted back to 6v6 from 6l6 and replaced the fender speaker with a Weber. Amp sounds great. Nice amp to demo guitars with if you want to sell them ? the replacement speaker took the farty bass response away, but I think the speaker I got in it was non- original.

Hi, Thanks for the replies.
I have heard good things about the Webber speakers. I am going to do some more research about which year I have, and have an amp tech check it for me.
I does however sound great as is.
