nick wrote I remember getting some money from some job I did and I bought Offsprings Smash and Nirvanas Unplugged in New York, on cassette ?

Smash was one of my first as well. Definitely the first "loud" band I heard - sitting'round the school library's cassette player with the volume turned way down so the librarian wouldn't hear the "bad words"in bridge part of Bad Habit. Bought it years later when I had my own CD player.

I the early seventies the s/h trade in records was booming,my addiction was Underground Music, which much later became Metal Music.
Sabbath,Purple,Heep,Zepplin...still got them all..I was too young to have enough money to buy new lp's.

Jeepers, I can't fully remember. All I do remember it was a compilation tape from CNA with a whole bunch of tracks on it. I thought it was the original artists but it turned out to be a compilation of covers...thats why it was so cheap. Not a great feeling to have my music-buying-virginity and saved up pocket money taken by a cover band compilation.

My best "investment" in music... (besides my Bellini) was Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same,
and I must've played No Quarter a zillion times... if you hold the record up to the light y'll surely see through the grooves. :?

Ironically, I went into national service Jan 1977 and missed the Cape Town release of the movie while I was in basics. :'(
Twas a few more years before I could buy the video and watch it on my own TV : 8)

I saw that film at the old Coliseum in JHB. They had about a million speakers all over the place. The adverts at the time were "We can't take you to a Led Zeppelin Concert, so we brought one to you"

This was the defining moment of all things guitar for me, and there was a real cute girl in the queue who had this "I love Jimmy Page" t-shirt on, I just had to play guitar.
