During a recent break between work contracts, I decided to have a look at the Timmy overdrive circuit. I used the original circuit design and built it on strip board. I made a couple of mods, not to the circuit but to the physical layout. Firstly, I put the connections on the top end of the box, rather than the sides. I prefer this because it means that I can get more pedals on my board ?. Secondly, in my experience most failures on pc boards that get knocked around a bit fail because a wire soldered directly to the board, so I used 2 gold plated 10-way Molex connectors, one on either side of the board to make all the connections to pots etc. I was really pleased with the transparency of the pedal. It's very flexible going from clean to fairly dirty.
I lent the pedal to a professional session man and guitar teacher and this was the opening comment in his extensive review
There is a lot that I like about the pedal & wouldn't hesitate to have one on my 'board, which is saying a lot 'cos I'm pretty fussy.
I'll be getting the pedal back this weekend, so if anyone would like to try it out, you're welcome. I'm in Sunninghill, Sandton.

me me me me me me!
May I?
Im in Sandton. Not here the weekend, on my way out. I have a neat collection of drive pedals, and was going to order a Timmy, just couldn't bite the bullet when you have found the 'ones'.
I would much appreciate it, to see if I have missed out... ?

I'd like to as well if possible? very intrigued about those..
maybe we could arrange a slot sometime and all go at the same time rather than pitch up sporadically and waste Johnny's time?
how did you see this panning out Johnny? any preferences?
Johnny-B
It's difficult to objectively test a pedal on someone else's rig, so I suggest that you each take it and try it out for a week on your own rig. I let you know when I get the pedal back.

would have loved to hear it, but in CT :/ think i'll get one together of my own sometime soon. btw, some interesting reading incl words from the man Paul C himself:

Hermanus, hey! Sent the air ticket and I'll hand-deliver thye demo Timmy!!!! ?
I've read most of the post you refer to. It's a 25 page marathon, but that's where I got the schematic and layout. If you are going to build your own and have any queries I'd be happy to assist. I've been up the learning curve! ?

I could throw my Amp Eleven into the mix for comparison to the Timmy.
I also still want to do the guitar weekends out here (Napier) with time set aside to try each others amps and effects.
@makepeace - you're pretty close to me, you should come visit sometime. Show me your amp, I'll show you guitar synths and FX silliness. ?

Mmm, amp eleven ?
I'm all for a bring and try type vibe, and a guitar weekend sounds good! Rig rundowns from everyone!
Want to get a new amp but not 100% sure what I want yet - it can be expensive and timeous to buy and sell until I find what I want! Much easier to try a whole lot together ?

So Napier is the base of this guru ?, close, but far enough at the same time ?. Thanks for the offer, I'd love to come visit. Don't often go that side but we'll definitely hook it up sometime ?

I have tried a tim, really cool pedals, but I prefer pedals that actually color you tone more for a OD...but the tim was awsum for staking after a fuzz...doesn't change the "voice" of the fuzz, but rounds the edges a bit and makes it nice an extra thick...I really get why it works so well for so many people...
Ps: you guys are really nice people for doing this hey ? serious karma boost thing going there...

I now have the Timmy back and available for you guys to try out.
Brent, I'll pm you now with my contact details.
Guido, once I have the Timmy back from Brent, I'll pm you.

Hey Johnny,
Can I get in line next ?
The Timmy has been on my want list for a while, but I've had to cut back on spending due to some unforeseen expenses.

Since getting a Laney VC100, i've been keen on going down the stompbox route.
Kev, you ok to meet up sometime to put your pedalboard thorugh the amp? I just want to get a flavour for what it will sound like.
Cheers
