Well there's no formal standard, but this explanation sounds reasonable to me
Superstrat (sometimes spelled as sooper strat or super-strat) is a name for an electric guitar design that resembles a Fender Stratocaster but with differences that clearly distinguish it from a standard Stratocaster, usually to cater to a different playing style. Differences typically (but not necessarily) include more pointed, aggressive-looking body and neck shapes, different tonewoods, increased number of frets, and usage of humbucking pickups, and Floyd Rose tremolo systems.
What I find interesting is that Leo Fender's initial design was so good and made such a fine starting point for evolution. The evolved guitars still are clearly Strat-ish. Chad's observations about ergonomics were interesting to me and, I think, are another indication of how good a design the original Strat was. Intentionally or not they are well suited to modifications, to hot-rodding.
Leo done good.
