Popping the Question?

So, Jacque's thread (grat's again Jacques!) brings up something I'm needing to think about too.

Soon I'll be picking up the ring (within the next few weeks hopefully), and I need to start thinking about how I want to go about the proposal. I'd appreciate some thoughts!

Some background:

- We've been together for three years, living together nearly the whole time
- She's incredibly non-fussy and easy to please, so in all reality I could get away with "Honey, I'm home, wanna get married?" but I'd rather do something a bit more special ?
- I've already done a lot of stuff like special dinners that I've prepared myself, secret tickets to shows etc. so I'd need to make it different somehow
- I wrote a song for her in the early days which I put together and e-mailed, so I can't get away with "I wrote you a song babe!" ?

Just scratching for some ideas, maybe stuff that worked well for others.

Well, she might do, and I have sent her links in the past, but I don't have any issue with her reading the thread. She knows my dilemna ?

I'm not exactly going to advertise my grand master plan here, I'm just asking.

I think the best way to propose to her is to just treat her like your princess. From the sounds of things she does not need something OTT. Something simple, but different, like a hot-air balloon ride at sunset. Just kidding ?

Don't forget that you already take her breath away, so there is not much more that you need to do to make it the most incredible moment of her life.

Yay, congrats Warren! If I were you I'd spring it on her like a Ninja. Try organise a day or two off work for her without her knowing (this does really depend on her job though) and one day when she thinks she's going to work, say, "hey, lets just get in the car and head out of town" and go spend a few days in the mountains. Everything is more fun when you were expecting to go to work, but end up having an adventure. Then again it might freak her out, I really wouldn't know!!??!!

For the first time, maybe ever (or since my first serious girlfriend in high-school, where, like, there was so much, like, love) I feel like I can really say that we are.

Previously there have always been some pretty major compromises (I don't do book-club, she doesn't do midget-wrestling etc.) but now it just all clicks. Hooray and stuff ?

So I need to secure her in legal - I mean - in holy matrimony so that she doesn't disappear in a puff of imaginary smoke...

Jokes aside, it's not about being obliged to do anything at all. It's something we both really want to do, and are genuinely looking forward to. 8)

Just had a thought, chatting to this odd chap off-line: I guess in a way the question is already popped...we've discussed it quite a bit and she has chosen her ring etc. So it's not like I'm springing a complete and utter surprise. It's more a case of her not knowing now exactly when and how the ninja will strike...but I'm assuming it's a "yes". ?

If not, she's one twisted individual. ?

I'm not suggesting this as a proposal idea but check out this guy's most brilliantly executed proposal.

Considering that she knows you're gonna pop the Q and that she's already chosen the ring, methinks you'd blow her mind if you could spring it as a surprise. Viccy's idea sounds pretty cool. I'm not sure what you guys typically do together but I suppose you could go for a walk (or snoek braai) on the beach and then you "find" a mussel in the rocks, "break" it open in front of her revealing a diamond ring inside. I was thinking of using that idea if we got engaged by the beach - but no such luck for us vaalies.

I spoke to a friend of mine and he mentioned this:

"He got the keys to her house from her mother, then laid down a carpet of rose petals with lit candles on the sides into the living room, where he was in a suit and on one knee when she came home."

Thought that was a very sweet as well and might help you out.

So an update:

This weekend I went with Viccy's "way of the ninja" - I organised a surprise weekend away in the Magaliesburg with hot-air ballooning on Saturday. Nice and secluded, lots of fun, not insanely expensive. Very cool 8)

PS: she said yes ?
