Hello Legends,

About 4/5 years ago I got hold of two brand new Marshall AVT100XT Amps.

Played through them both a few times, then started only playing through the one.

Last night, after, I would say a couple of years, I plugged the second amp in and discovered it doesn't work.

It hasn't been knocked or damaged in any way. It just hasn't been played in years.

When I turn the volume knob, I hear scratching noises, I've also pulled it apart to check connections etc (all fine).

What could cause this to happen? The amp is brand spanking new, and I want to work! :?

I hope you guys can help me.

If you hear pot scratching, your input socket or first amplification stage are probably malfunctioning.

Sounds like a job for a techie.
I'm prob way off, but does it have a fuse you can check?
I've checked the fuse bro, it's fine...

        Appreciate the idea. ?
Did you find out by measuring the fuse or by looking at the wire? I once battled with my hifi tube amp (tube rectifier) because of a bad fuse. It had been eroding because of the recto tube arcing. I replaced both fuse and recto and it was gone. When I tried to put the old fuse with the new recto, it did not work. When I put the old tube with the new fuse, it did work but I'm sure the tube would have gradually eaten up the new fuse as well.

I found a similar problem on an old WRS solid state hifi amp. The fuse looked perfect, but measured around 500 ohms on my meter.
I now make a point of always measuring used fuses with an ohmmeter or replace if I have in stock just to be sure.
