when i saw guthrie govan and matthias eklundh, i was a total sucker. ? Been trying to have as much fun on guitar as those guys, a real inspiration. i just love them ,and respect them for putting in all those hours to perfect guitar. Who would you like to play like ?

raithza

I want to play with the attitude of jack white... the ease of jimi... the soul of son house... but still sound like me ?

arjunmenon

I like Charlie4's post - For a long time, i wanted to emulate a combination of McLaughlin, Petrucci & Vai. ?
No cigar yet

StefStoep

Joe Bonamassa! But he had a lot of Gary Moore in his style, not that is a bad thing!
Guess everybody wants to sound/play like some one else at some stage or is that always?

Cleric

Adam Jones (Tool) for me. He may not be that fast, but the variety of sounds he gets through interesting playing techniques and creative use of effects is right up my alley.

Renesongs

I just hate it when people tell me I sound exactly like [insert guitar legend here] especially if I don't particularly like the guitarist I supposedly sound like. ???

I heard you sound a lot like Singemonkey.

"Like" not "as good as".

That's never happened to me.

Squonk

First got to learn how to play!

But as Singe already explained, should be able to pick up influences from your playing anyway.
Although EVH was a huge Clapton fan and I cant hear much Clapton in Eruption, Panama etc.

A smiley would be appropriate in case renesongs thinks you aren't kidding. I don't want to be bludgeoned to death with a stratocaster - even though it is one of the lovely '80s Japanese models.

It's actually hard to describe someones sound to a third party (especially if they're not musos) without using known artists as a comparison... so if someone had to ask me to describe them I'd say one sounds like SRV/Hendrix and the other sounds like Albert King/Freddie King when they're playing. When they're talking they sound exactly the same ?

Cannon

I want to play like.......all the time man!!!

I'm sitting here at the office drawing little arpeggios on printouts of blank fretboards.

Well of course I wasn't going to say that your playing, despite some superficial similarities, is merely "as good as" that of He-who-scampers-like-a-monkey-by-day-and-hoots-like-an-owl-by-night.

It's a "Your Majesty is like a stream of bat's piss" kind of remark.

Hmmm.... somehow I don't feel like I've dug my way out of the hole.

Renesongs

Like a stream of bat's piss eh... You have partially redeemed yourself Sir Bob. I suppose my playing is swift , can't be seen, thrives on darkness, and causes young women to shriek and become inexplicably wet. ?

theantirockstar

i'm not a huge electric fan (although Knophler, Mayer and SRV are awesome) so if I had to choose, i'd more
go along the lines of Doyle Dykes, Phil Keaggy (acoustic), Dave Matthews, Steven Curtis Chapman and Tim Reynolds

theantirockstar

not to mention Dan Crary and Beppe Gambetta, if you like bluegrass that is (which I do)

JoeyBones

For me its Jack White ?

IceCreamMan

Yngwie ? he can play anything

Hammeron

Yea, if someone said to me - you sound a bit like Ritchie Blackmore - I must admit, it would make my day. ?
