Hi All

The courier dropped this off yesterday. This is not something I see often. Have you used one of these?

Hi Karel...oh what a beaut. That was the weapon of choice in the 60's ? I would not mind using one again with the AC30 or Bandmaster. Must say they suck a bit of treble (in my experience)..... but what a great find.
Ha! 8) Know 'em well. The tape echo of choice until the Roland Space Echo came along and still in demand with the Hank Marvin guys. They are apparently still making them, but they died the death locally when spares (particularly heads and tapes) became impossible to find (you can get them again now, lots of guys in the UK selling spares).

That's one of the solid state models isn't it?
Oh that is a beaut!! I used to lust after those puppies man. I'd play 'em in the store I worked at and just drool.

The Echoplex was the king daddy but the Watkins/WEM was awesome also. Nothing like tape delay man.

Today if you want this type deal you have to turn to the Fulltone TTE Tube Tape Echo which will put you back about 1200 bones.

Interestingly, the Echoplex model in Eleven Rack along with the expression pedal is a SUPER sounding modeled alternative.

I also have the Xotic Effects EP Booster which is a circuit designed after the preamp circuit in an Echoplex. It really warms up the tone. Great for single coils.

Here is a nice article on Echoplex's.

...and don't forget the Binson Echorec, which used metal tape. ?

Just wish to revive this topic.
Does anyone here have something like this ? ....THE echo machine ! ?
I had something like this. But it's a load of trouble to get anything out of it, so I gave it to Matta who has the expertise to turn it into something useful.

                Hi Guys,
I have a WEM Copicat Solid State that I am thinking of selling as I have not used it in 20 years. Any idea what the value is and what whould be a good asking price?
WEMs are great for "echoes of the past". However they're old technology and spares are not readily available here in SA.
Value wise....I would guess R2000 to R3000 for one in good working condition ?

Absolutely Vic. I think every band (at least lead guitarist) in the 60's - 70's had one. I know the Invaders, and perhaps The Flames, and all the bands
in CT during that time had one ....... AND a ZONK fuzz !! ?

IIRC, the one I had was called an Echo-lette ..... OMGoodness ....

                          Thanks Attila....great article and resource.

There's actually one of these guys up on gumtree at the moment. Somewhere around R2500 if I remember correctly.
Looks like an awesome piece of analogue kit.
Hi Karel! That tape echo looks awesome! It's a decent unit indeed.

With regards to tape echos, I know someone selling a 70s Roland Space Echo in Hout Bay.

I'd love to buy it, but I can't use it live, so I can't buy it!
Do You Greg? Please facebook or whatsapp me with details...I have a housemate who has been hunting for one of those for ages.
