Demon Dave's double life as Jean Claude Van Dave got me thinking about odd skills we have or circumstances some of us may have found ourselves in (cage fighting in Sydney ? )... (this was covered some time ago but there's a lot of new active members)... Tell us something interesting about yourself that others may not know!

I don't see why that should be a barrier. But I think you might have trouble getting to the beach on a regular basis.

You tell me... I've written a book which is online at www.iamsamward.com - looking into the possibility of self-publishing as the SA publishers thought the subject matter - zombies - was a bit niche.

Earned provincial colours in rugby and in high-school and played a bit of super league club cricket. First shoulder and then knee problems put an end to that though. ☹

Oh, and I do it the old fashioned way, pencils, inks, quills, airbrushes, etc… I Sometimes use Photoshop to colour, but yeah, no school like the old school.

Here are a few of the tools I use.

@Squonk, definitely can still start. Met a guy in the water a few days ago who was 45. He had surfed when was younger but he hadn't surfed in forever and was just starting up again recently so almost the same situation.

I'm a pretty kickass painter. And I can get toddlers to do whatever I say when I say the words...."I'm counting to three". The furthest I ever count to is two.

Here's a recent commission. Very cheesy, but it's not my taste, it's the buyer's choice (down to the cow). Will take a photo tomorrow of my own stuff when there's better light.

Provincials for bisley (target shooting).
Making average people feel short.
Prawn on the barbey you wont find anywhere else (in a good way).
Can identify and successfully cultivate a number of rare endemic succulents.
Other than that I'm pretty much like any other plaas laaitie

that's very nice! don't know anything about art but the sharp mountains with the soft bushes and the leaves does something for me.

Yup, it's not an easy bird in South Africa. I've seen it at Ndumo in northern KZN and at Ezemvelo Nature Reserve near Bronkhorstspruit. There are occasional reports of it from Borakalalo near Brits but, despite having birded Borakalalo a lot, I have never seen it there.

Have you seen it? The only two birds in South Africa (that are not vagrants) I still need are Eurasian Bittern and Short-tailed Pipit.
