NGD - New family member, my 1st Hollowbody

Very chuffed with my new Gumtree find: An Aria TA-50 hollowbody.
Got it over the weekend. In very good nick, a virtually new guitar.
Still getting used to the chunkier neck, although not as chunky
as a Gibson neck, but more so than Fender (which I'm used to playing).

Sounds good, although I reckon I'll get new pickups when my next ship comes in...

Wow, what an awesome 335! Looks superbly built, good pics those.

Just a point: both Gibson and Fender make necks in a wide variety of profiles. I've played some very thin Gibson necks and some very chunky ones too. The finish also makes a difference to how "sticky" the neck feels.

Aha..I have to admit I was kind of under the impression that all/most Gibson necks are chunkier and wider than Fender necks in general.
Haven't had the privilege of playing many Gibsons yet :-\
Maybe one day I can splurge on the real 335.
I hope.

But for a cheaper version of the 335 it really is quite nicely built yes and the paintjob/finishing is spotless.

My Tokai ES155 has a chunky neck, and my Gibson ES-335 TD a slimline. It really is not an issue, I don't pay too mach attention to such. Just play the thing.

BTW. I've played a bit CDEE's Aria and was quite impressed with the tone ......

I've always loved the looks of hollowbodies, especially the 335.
As far as tone goes - No Norman, it doesn't sound like a Tele ? , maybe if I use the bridge pickup
and really turn up the treble to 11 on the amp ?

To my amateur ears it has a very full, thick sound. Kinda punchy. I'm sure the humbuckers help.
I've played it through both my VOXAC15 and this old crappy no-name brand valve amp I have that I usually use for my drum machine,
and I prefer the crappy old bass amp's tone with this guitar. The Aria sounds too muddy and undefined through the VOX.
My Jazzmaster (with p90's) sounds nicer through the VOX though.
Think I read something somewhere on the forum that VOX amps like single coil or p90's more than humbuckers?
I might just agree now ?

Must say I'm getting really into playing it. Haven't picked up my other guitars since I got it.
It seems to have way more sustain than my JM, suppose it's the hollowbody that gives more sustain?

Very nice Make and do!! I actually had a look at this guitar as well, but then decided against it because I remembered the quality of my Aria acoustic that I had.
If im not mistaken and I think some of these arias were made in the same factory as the Epiphones. You will see the serial numbers on the Arias and epiphone's are the same format. Enjoy her!

Dis flippen mooi daai!!! I obsessed about a black hollow in my teens, never could afford a decent one.

Mr. Pendantic however says: "Semi-hollow, not hollow." Epiphone Casino and Gibson ES330 are true slim-line hollow bodies. The 335 design has a solid block down the middle that the pickups and bridge are mounted to. Less acoustic. Also less feedback.

Ta Dino. It's actually a pretty decent, well built guitar. Find of the year for me.
Just need new pickups. I see you've acquired quite a few new pedals since I last saw you ?
Will have to hook up some time and talk gear. Curious to hear your new Fender setup too.
