i am a bit confused about the applicattion of this , shall we say, gentle warning..
is this a gentle warning to 7thson to NOT say his brand of music is awesome..
or is it a gentle warning to deefstes for him to not say that brand of music is NOT awesome..
or is this a gentle warning that no one is allowed to voice any opinion about what they feel on the differet brands of music??
This is a GUITAR forum. Not a blues forum, or a folk-rock forum, or a heavy metal forum, or.....
All guitarists should feel welcome here - irrespective of their tastes or skill levels, so we shouldn't be casting aspersions about one form or music or another.
I'm sure it's all been light hearted in it's intent so far, but we have seen in the past how criticism (with or without spiteful intent) of brands and genres and reactions to those slurs (actual or perceived) can get way out of hand and tempers can rise. It does the forum no good, so I'd rather sound a cautionary note now than have to put out fires later.
To address your questions from another perspective, you should love whatever music you love and not feel reluctant to say you love it. I feel quite strongly about this because my tastes are real minority stuff on this forum. I don't feel picked on because of it, but I am aware that there's a whole world of music out there and nobody is into all of it.
A useful analogy might be soccer. Trouble doesn't start because one person shouts "Yay Chelsea!" Trouble may start when another person, supporting another team shouts out "Chelsea are a bunch of *$!@# !".
